What’s a ‘Red Herring’? 🐟
Have you ever experienced anything like: ‘Oh, I’ve got it! That cup is the clue for the whole puzzle!’, and then it turns out to be just a regular cup? Then you know exactly what a red herring is 🙃

Some of them are placed deliberately to mislead players; others are leftovers from a puzzle that was removed and some are decorative items that happen to look like clues.
Usually, nobody likes red herrings, because they consume your precious time and give you nothing in return. But sometimes they might be really fun 😉

We can’t say this stuff isn’t great - it is! We just can’t understand why each and every company does it 😅

🖼 Photo of your group after the game. This is a great idea if you have a big enough wall to store the collection 😁

🔠 Worded sign props for the photo. No, really, does literally every escape room have those?

⏳ 60-minute games. What’s wrong with 45 mins? Or 90? There are some companies in Melbourne that break this one hour rule, but it is still too popular. Why? 🤔

Isn’t this a familiar situation? 😅 Relax, Enescape knows the solution! So take a deep breath and let's go through genres:

What are the most common puzzle types in ? No, we won’t talk about padlocks. We’ll show you the TOP ways to decipher them 😁 Might be useful for newbies and save you some time:

🧩 Numbers hidden in pictures. Got pictures with 2 white cats, 3 red and 1 black? That’s definitely a code 😆
🧩 Cryptic messages. The hardest part here is to figure out the cipher. Though hints are usually hidden somewhere nearby.
🧩 Code inside the plain text. Found a poem? Try to find references to the objects around, use blacklight on it or read the first letter in each line. That might help 🙃
🧩 Puzzles in everyday objects. Look for strange signs on some regular items and try to reassemble them in the right order.

⭐️ Easy is a perfect choice for a family experience and with kids. Also this level is preferable for newbies.
⭐️⭐️ Medium. This one is great for those who have been to escape rooms a few times or large groups.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hard. This difficulty level should be chosen only by the bravest and most experienced ones 😏 But it’s ok to try it if you like a challenge.

Somewhere, in almost all of us, there is a kid that loves to solve mysteries, explore the unknown, be the hero or the adventurer looking for hidden treasures. And that’s what we do in escape rooms 🤩

👋 Building relationships
Role-playing within an escape room environment gives us an opportunity to move out of our comfort zone and engage with people in new ways.

Here are some tips for taking your kids with you:
🧸 Kids like winning. So choose an easier room and let them enjoy it.
🧸 Do we need to mention that NO horror rooms with jumpscares are allowed?
🧸 A room with unlimited hints will be a good idea.
🧸 Let kids search for clues. They are great at hide’n’seek 😉
🧸 The very act of unlocking a lock is fun and rewarding, regardless of who solved it. Let them do it.
