Lauren Shiarna-Rae Greatorex

I am a strong and proud Malgana (Shark Bay), Nyikina (surrounding region of Derby), Jabirr Jabbirr (North of Broome) woman. Art comes as a natural gift that has inspired me to share my heritage and cultural connections with the world. Motivated by Ancestral Elders, culture and Country, my artistic vision is inspired by the ocean, the waterways, and throughout my life’s journey. I feel the urge to paint my story, my sense of place, that connects me with my ancestors. During a period of my life, I struggled with depression and anxiety. Connecting to art has provided me with a therapeutic pathway to cope with challenges in my life. My artwork reflects the Dreaming stories of my ancestors that have been passed down to me from generations. Regular visits to Country with family allow me to remain connected to the unique beauty of the Malgana, Nyikina, and Jabirr Jabirr ancestral lands and sea.

I am currently welcoming commission opportunities with organisations, councils and community groups seeking original Aboriginal artwork for Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs), publications and organisational materials.

Now based in Geraldton in the Midwest, my artwork reflects themes of connection to Country, community, cultural identity and shared pathways forward. I enjoy working with organisations that are committed to genuine reconciliation and respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

I work collaboratively with organisations to create meaningful, culturally informed artwork that visually represents their values, relationships and commitment to reconciliation.

Artwork commissions are available for:
• Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP)
• Organisational brochures and flyers
• Community reports and strategic documents
• Office and workplace spaces
• Digital and print publications

If your organisation is developing a RAP or looking to incorporate Aboriginal artwork into your projects, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss a collaboration.

📩 Please feel free to send a direct message to discuss your project, timelines or email to [email protected]

It’s official, Gathaagudu has moved and is now settled in Geraldton!

A new chapter begins, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. This move opens up so many new creative opportunities, new connections, new stories, and more chances to share culture through art. 🎨🌿

I’m also proud to be starting this journey working with Aboriginal Family Legal Service of Western Australia, supporting community and strengthening pathways for our people.

Grateful for everyone who has supported my journey so far from the Pilbara to the Midwest, this is just the beginning.

Watch this space, big things coming!

Big love Lauren Greatorex ❤️

Today, we mark the anniversary of the National Apology delivered by Kevin Rudd to the Stolen Generations.

On this day, we remember the strength, resilience, and courage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially those who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and culture.

The Apology was an important step towards healing, acknowledging past wrongs and committing to a better future built on truth, respect, and justice.

But the journey does not end with words. It continues through our actions: listening, learning, standing together, and working for equity and self-determination.

Today, we honour survivors, their families, and communities.
We reflect. We remember. And we recommit to walking together towards healing and reconciliation.

Today I pause.

26 January is the Day of Mourning, a time to acknowledge the hurt, loss and injustice experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since colonisation.

I honour the resilience of my communities, the wisdom of my Elders, and the strength of culture that continues to thrive. May today be a time for listening, reflection and commitment to a better future together.

I pause to remember my old people and that they are with me on my journey.
