Looking for a summer camp activity that works for big groups, broad age ranges & limited staff? 🏕️

At the Live Gaming Innovation Summit in London, Nicole Lander shared the idea that started Battlefield Sports: bringing the thrill of a video game to life. 🎮
That idea remains at the heart of what we do, especially for camps seeking memorable, scalable experiences.

Cedar Springs Camp in Washington, USA, needed an activity that could engage everyone from young children to teens and adults, while staying practical to run.
Outdoor laser tag became part of the answer.

They needed an experience that could:
• Engage players from age five through to adults. Our oldest outdoor laser tag player to date was 88!
• Accommodate large groups with fewer supervisors
• Keep campers excited to return year after year

With Battlefield Sports’ commercial outdoor laser tag, Cedar Springs created programs for younger players through to ages 13+, using story-driven missions to make every game more immersive.

“When the kids had a storyline… they got really engaged. Offering a ‘special ops’ theme in our summer camp has worked well for us.”
— Mark McKinney, Cedar Springs Camp

The best live-action gaming experiences are not just about equipment. They give operators the tools to bring their own vision to life, whether that is a special-ops mission, a historical battle or something completely original. 🚀

Planning for next season? Ask: will your next attraction scale with your group size, age range and staffing?

Battlefield Sports' patented laser tag system embeds a computer in each tagger, controller, and box. Everything works together.

The live-action gaming system handles hit detection, game emulation, game mechanics & logic, and scoring in real time. With 350+ emulations and different themes, we've got something to suit you.

For example, the Battle Boxes can act as Supply Crates for in-game upgrades.

Battlefield Sports has the best scalability. We've got the world record of 436 players in a single game! Better still, our system supports up to 8 separate battle groups in close proximity without crossfire.

I've been selected as a Judge for the Telstra Best of Business Awards in 2026.

7th year running.

And it still hasn't gotten old.

Here's why.

Every year, I get a front-row seat to something most people never see.

The grit.

The creativity.

The hard yards that go into building an Australian business. (Most of it happens quietly. Long before anyone claps.)

I know that feeling from the other side, too.

Battlefield Sports won a Telstra Business Innovation Award for our work in live-action gaming.

That one win changed how I saw everything we'd built.

When the chance comes to give some of that back by judging, mentoring, and championing other business owners chasing the same thing, I take it seriously.

It's one of the best ways I know to support the community that's supported us.

And this year, the timing means something extra.

We're not slowing down.

We're heading into some of the most exciting innovation we've ever done, including Blayz Tag: our new gunless laser tag experience.

Judging other people's innovation while chasing your own?

Good reminder.

Innovation isn't a one-off win.

It's a habit.

So if you know a business owner doing something remarkable, solving real problems, building something genuinely new, doing the hard yards better than anyone else, tell 'em to put their hand up.

Enter.

You never know where it leads.

We have certainly delighted in our journey.

Proud to be judging again in 2026.

Can't wait to meet this year's nominees and finalists.

What if your camp's team-building activity could handle 200 guests just as well as 20? 🎯

That's the question I get asked a lot by camp directors and park owners. Outdoor laser tag is one of the few activities I've seen scale cleanly without losing what makes it fun.

A few examples that stick with me:

🏕️ Fuse Camp: Around 225 teens, all in on one massive session. The kind of shared experience campers talk about for the rest of summer.

🎻 QCCC Tamborine: Running a music camp for 60 players. In tune for the whole group.

⛰️ Camp Somerset: An awesome Year 11 Leadership camp for 140 students. A half-day event. No drop-off in energy.

💻 Microsoft's TechEd: 80 IT professionals navigating a pop-up maze, battling to control the "Domination Box" for the longest time. Try building that kind of cross-team strategy in a conference room. Proof that this isn't just a "camp thing."

🥤 IOR Energy: A corporate family fun day. Chosen because it's genuinely inclusive for every age and ability level.

The reason live-action gaming works across such different group sizes comes down to the mission design. In games like Heist, some players can rush in and tag an objective, your sneakier players can raid the other base, and your lower-mobility or more cautious kids can hold down defense.

And who doesn't like collecting virtual money? 😉

Nobody's sitting out, and everyone finds a role that fits how they naturally play.

For camp directors, that's the real win.

An activity that's genuinely inclusive across ages and abilities, doesn't need a huge staff-to-camper ratio to run safely, and gives campers a "wow" moment they'll be talking about at pickup.

What new activity are you weighing up to add to next season's program?
