Bringing the Adelaide Fringe Festival down to the Semaphore & Port
15th February - STREET PARTY!
23rd-24th - Non Stop! 24 Hour Shin-Digg, Including an All Night BreakFeast at Sarah's Sisters Cafe, while viewing local Artists work!! AIMS:
- To launch a raw annual festival for Semaphore, for the Benefit of the local Community, and to create a launching platform for a new bold campaign to raise Sem
aphore's profile across Adelaide, SA...& Beyond!
- Concomitantly, start planning for an "All-Year-Round", with Semaphore at the Expenditure, and an expanding domaine (with the response to F @ S, this has already started!)
- To use the above as a Focus for rebuilding / reestablishing the Semaphore main Street Association, to enable it to represent any, and all, interests in the Community.
- To affirm, Semaphore Roads claim as the examplar of a surviving, traditional "High Street", which still functions as the heart, and backbone, for a thriving 21st century community. IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES:
- Local: Offer a bona fide "Fringe" experience for NW Suburbs locals in their own local.
- Tourism: To Create a worldly (even edgy) Fringe Event (Albeit "Compact") which competes on it's own merits...point of difference
ONGOING OBJECTIVES: The above would create an exposition of Semaphore assets and attractions, notably...
- It's artistic "culture" and activity
- it's diverse, owner-operated cafes, etc
- it's cultural, and demographic diversity
- it's eco/ethical awareness
- it's socio-economic awareness, and 'willingness' to dissent
- it's unique continuity, of 'Kaurna Country' and early settler determination (asn irreverence!)
- To create a sustainability "Think Global, Act Local" mentality for the Future! STRATEGIES:
The founding precept, by necessity because of the imitations of time, resources, and funding, was to create compact "sampler" festival, which non the less contained, and exhibited, all of the essential ingredients. The outcome has been remarkable: the collaboration of the exhausted SMA Committee, Sarah's Sisters and Artistic Creative Resident Friends! has produced an
Event like no others...a non Stop 24 Hour celebration of the local community and it's unique Arts, Food, Shopping, "eco" activity, and of it's diversity and conviviality, and especially of it's youth...The envisaged representation of "genre" has been far-exceeded, with Visual Art, music =, food trails, performances, poetry, urban design, cycling event, 'conversations' an artists story. live portraiture and photo-portraiture!! OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRADERS:
All Traders on Semaphore Road, and surrounds, are welcome, an encouraged to join in, t promote Semaphore, and their business. During Fringe @ Semaphore, Go For It!! Perhaps extend trading Hours, to try new Exciting New Ideas! (Sarah's Sisters will be open 24 Hours NON-STOP!, incorporating an 'All Night Breakfast / All Night FilmShow / Reclaim The Night"
After the Fringe: Rejoin the SMA, to help restore it to it's effective past glory! Semaphore's Luck cant last! Come And Help Plan Fringe At Semaphore 365 as the "All Year Round Fringe". The Concepts will be based on the remarkable programme of New York's High Line of community building and enhancement, with it's theme of inclusion, enhancement, with it's themes of inclusion, engagement, participation, sustainability, civic awareness, etc. Fringe @ Semaphore 2014
