One of my favourite things about Dolly Parton had nothing to do with music.
Dolly’s Dad was one of the smartest people she knew, but he never had the opportunity to learn to read or write.
So in 1995, she started the Imagination Library in his honour, sending free books to young children every month, regardless of their family’s income.
What started in one small county in Tennessee grew into a worldwide program that has now gifted hundreds of millions of books to children, including here in Australia 🇦🇺
Her dad told her before he died that he believed the Imagination Library was probably the most important thing she had ever done.
For someone who gave the world so much incredible music, I think there’s something really beautiful about one of her greatest legacies being simply helping little kids fall in love with books 📖✨
Rest in Peace Dolly. What a legacy to leave behind ❤️
