✨ 2026.06.26 – Sunset, Sunspots & the Moon ✨

A short hike up to a summit on the evening of June 26th, hoping to spot some wildlife and catch the sunset. The sunset itself turned out to be incredible. With my 600mm telephoto lens and the natural filtering of the atmosphere, I managed to capture the Sun with visible sunspots on its surface, all handheld, no tripod.

🔭 Sunspots are temporary dark patches on the Sun's surface caused by intense magnetic activity. They appear darker because they are slightly cooler than the surrounding photosphere, though still thousands of degrees hot.

✨ 26.06.2026 – Coucher de soleil, taches solaires et Lune ✨

Petite marche pour monter en haut d'un sommet le soir du 26 juin, dans l'espoir de voir des animaux et profiter du coucher de soleil. Le coucher de soleil s'est révélé fou. Grâce à mon téléobjectif 600mm et au filtrage naturel de l'atmosphère, j'ai pu capturer le Soleil avec ses taches solaires bien visibles, tout ça à main levée, sans trépied.

🔭 Les taches solaires sont des zones temporaires plus sombres à la surface du Soleil, causées par une forte activité magnétique. Elles paraissent plus foncées car légèrement plus froides que la photosphère environnante, même si elles restent à plusieurs milliers de degrés.

✨ 2025.12.09 – Barnard’s Loop | Blending ✨

Back with a new take on Barnard’s Loop, captured at 50mm.
This was my very first time using this focal length for astrophotography, paired with a cooled camera and RGB + Hα filters and I instantly fell in love with this wide and immersive field of view.

To bring more structure and depth to the scene, I created a blend by adding my Orion and Horsehead data gathered over the past years. These inner regions come from a mix of RGB and Hα images, captured both with a Canon 60D and later with the cooled ASI2600MM.
Blending these datasets allowed me to highlight the delicate details around Orion while preserving the vast, faint glow of Barnard’s Loop. I’m really happy with how this one turned out it truly pops.

Barnard’s Loop is a gigantic emission nebula made of ionized hydrogen, spanning hundreds of light-years and surrounding the Orion molecular cloud complex. It lies roughly 1,300 light-years away and is energized by the massive, young stars of the Orion region. Its faint red arc dominates the winter sky, yet remains a real challenge to capture due to its extremely low surface brightness.

✨ 2025.12.13 – Orion Rising | A Blended Nightscape ✨

This image marks a first for us: our very first blended nightscape.
The foreground was captured during the Geminids night on December 13, 2025, revealing a sea of fog over the Swiss Plateau, with the Swiss Alps rising in the distance. Orion was already perfectly placed at the center of the original frame. This base image was captured by Daytona.

To push this scene further, we blended the sky with additional astrophotography data taken at 24mm, 50mm and 135mm. These layers add color and fine structures that could not be revealed with the original landscape setup alone.

Everything remains perfectly to scale with the original 24mm shot. Nothing was resized. The sky layers were simply overlaid to enhance depth, color and detail while preserving natural proportions.

🔭 What you can spot in the sky
On the full vertical image, the Orion Nebula (M42) and the Running Man (NGC 1977) dominate the center. Above them appear the Horsehead (IC 434) and the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), all embedded within the vast Barnard’s Loop (Sh2-276). Higher up, the Lambda Orionis Ring (Sh2-264) stands out, with faint hints of the Milky Way, the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) and the Christmas Tree Cluster (NGC 2264).

✨ 2025.12.13 – Geminids Meteor Shower ✨

A magical night under the stars. We settled in, watched meteors falling above our heads, set up the cameras… and let them run in timelapse mode.
I captured the sky from three different angles that night — and here’s the first one!

This final image is a composite gathering the meteors that crossed this field of view. There weren’t countless streaks, but I’m already really happy to have caught several Geminids in a single frame. 🌠

🔭 About the Geminids
The Geminids are one of the most reliable and intense meteor showers of the year, peaking every December. They originate from asteroid 3200 Phaethon, producing bright, often colorful meteors that appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini. Unlike many showers, Geminids are known for their slow, graceful streaks across the sky.

✨ 2025.11.12 — Aurora Star Trails from Switzerland (NE) ✨

After sharing the timelapse of Wednesday’s northern lights, here’s something a bit different: a star trail created by stacking the 196 frames from that same sequence.

You can see the circular motion of the stars around the north celestial pole (with Polaris almost, but not quite, at the center) along with the auroras stretched across the sky, shaped by their movement over time.
A unique mix of steady starlight and fast-moving polar glow. 💚💜

📸 All frames come from the timelapse posted earlier.
