Very proud of my students last Sunday at the Highland Pipers Society of Western Australia Solo Competition. It was great to get back out myself onto the boards. Looking forward to the next one πŸ˜€πŸŽΆ

Five students competed at the Highland Pipers Society of Western Australia's annual solo piping competition, along with Head of Pipe Band and Piping, Mr Alisdair McLaren. The competition in the juvenile grades was very close between our girls and many other young up-and-coming pipers from around Perth. Each student performed to a very high standard and received a lot of positive feedback from many in attendance.

Congratulations to the following students who where awarded the following prizes in their respective categories.

1st place Beginner Chanter
Erica (Year 8 )

3rd place Juvenile Intermediate Piping
Klara (Year 9)

1st place Juvenile Upper Intermediate Piping
Katherine (Year 11)

3rd place D Grade Piping
Katherine (Year 11)

1st place A Grade Piping

Was passed on this blast from the past photo last night at band practice. It's a photo taken in 1995 when I was the guest junior piper at Pipe Major Angus Macdonald's recital here in Perth for the Highland Pipers Society of Western Australia.

In the photo is my dad who has been a massive support to me along my piping journey and my solo piping tutor Malcolm Brown who introduced me to the world of solo piping especially his favourite piper John D Burgess.

At the time who would have thought that in 13 years time I would be working at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow where PM Angus once taught.

Hard to believe that it's been 4 years since I had the honour of leading the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums at the 2019 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Sydney. Time definitely flies past these days. I wonder where the next tour will be 🎢✈️

Really enjoying playing my pipes at the moment just for fun and with no expectations. It's taken a while to change that mindset having spent so much of my career focused on winning competitions at the highest level in a team environment. Here's a wee MSR, with the march David Ross, strathspey John Roy Stewart and reel Alick C McGregor. It's by no means perfect but a good way to finish a day of teaching at PLC today. πŸ˜ƒ
