When two pure musical powerhouses join forces, everything just clicks 🖤

I recently had the privilege of capturing Australia's very own Mr and queen of rock & soul, ahead of their upcoming Swing My Soul national tour; with a blissful impromptu song at the end🤍

Two of Australia’s most loved artists will come together this November. James Morrison and his swinging band, with special guest Mahalia Barnes, will be touring Australia with an unforgettable concert experience.

Hearing them chat about music, industry evolution, and creative philosophy was such a treat. Two pillars of Australian music finding so much common ground in hearty conversation, was so very cool.

They're both such real, salt-of-the-earth, ridiculously gifted humans. You really won't want to miss this truly special tour, as they bring to life all of your favourite swing soul classics.

Before we left, we asked Mahalia if she wouldn't mind us sharing the raw footage of their little jam.

Film photography was a huge part of my childhood. I played with rolls of film before I even knew what they were. I would constantly take pictures in my mind before I even knew what photography was.
I would lift my little hands to frame whatever it was in front of me.

I saw beauty everywhere.

My first reliable camera was a Nikon F80. I loved watching the process of a captured moment, become tangible right before my eyes. That was it for me. I HAD to take photos of everything I could.

Music has been the compass of my life. It has given me an amazing platform to immortalise some of the most incredible artists of our time.

My music photography began about 12 years ago. Having been a singer songwriter in a former life, being on the other side of the lens made perfect sense to my soul. I understand the sacred communion between artist, stage, band and audience. I get it.

I began shooting in some of the darkest venues across Sydney and I mean daaaark.
What I didn’t know then, is that it taught me to push my trusty old camera to its absolute limits.
I learned to make sense of the dark, to appreciate the light.
I moved from smaller stages to bigger ones and forged amazing bonds with some of the most beautiful venues across the country.

Photojournalism is another great love.
I adore capturing behind the scenes moments, events, and snapping up opportunities to shoot portraits on the fly. Candid moments are life & capturing the essence of live music and events, is my passion.

Some words of encouragement:
Please keep going, stay true to your art.
What I have learned, is that the more you fall in love with your art and who you are as a person, the less important everything and everyone insignificant becomes.

In a world where technology surges and AI replaces encouraged intelligence, I am content in knowing, that I still take pictures in my mind. I still lift my hands to frame a moment, and I still see beauty and art, everywhere .

De La Soul were a huge part of my youth.
A turbulent time when music was my compass; dreaming, reading and rhyming was free; and hip hop was a revolution.

Yes, I am a proud Gen X hip hop, soul, r&b lover who flew through the 90s with a discman and cassette tapes; polaroids and those rolls of film you KNEW you had to wait until the next paycheck to develop. Even then, there were no guarantees. Imperfect photos were the norm and if you owned a handy cam, you got invites to all the bbqs. I miss it so much. We drank out of garden taps and the streetlights coming on meant get yo ass home. 3 Feet High & Rising always got me home. I was 14. I was INVINCIBLE.

The Enmore Theatre was A L I V E with a thumping hip-hop energy that tore through the building from entry to exit and I. WAS. THERE. The love for Dave was MAMMOTH. His vibration lives on and &
ensured we felt every inch of his legacy; thank you.
This was one for the bucket list🌻

Lettuce brought damn good music & damn good vibes to Sydney in 2025. An unforgettable night of pure brilliance. When you're in a room with music royalty, particularly FUNK royalty, that's when you're reminded, just how powerful music is. A universal language that unifies the masses. The The Metro Theatre was completely mesmerised & I was so honoured to capture it all.

Morcheeba graced our shores with a SOLD OUT show here in Sydney. Our beautiful iconic Enmore Theatre was gorgeously lit by an ethereal ambience second to none. Sky Edwards, you are an absolute queen of the stage. An incredible band of gifted musicians. Ever grateful for your venture down under, thank you.

Jimmy Barnes at the phenomenal annual On The Steps in Sydney.
A hot summers night I'll never forget💛
It was the most perfect way to see out 2025; in the gate capturing the most beautiful Kate Ceberano, ever grateful 🙏

These events are a mammoth undertaking, the kind we never take for granted as media crew. Thank you for keeping Live music well and truly ALIVE🤍

"In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary" Aaron Rose.
Canadian born Leif Vollebekk played at The Metro Theatre in May earlier this year. Incredibly gifted singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he brought the entire room to a complete standstill. It was a gorgeous evening of beautiful music.
Ever blessed to capture the brilliance of the gifted ones.
