“How’d you come up with the name”? As opposed to “why the name?”, which is a story for another time. My son who I shall hence forth call No.2, is part of an amazing little group of solid friends. They struck up a strong union while No.2 was going through a really tricky time and they’ve been unwavering ever since. I’m so impressed with how kind, accepting and supportive they are. That’s how we want our boys to grow up, right?

The Memory Box was something No.2 and his friends would draw during their breaks in primary school. They were these weird, creative collaborations involving rockets, helicopters, explosives and dismembered bodies. It was a crazy kind of metaphor for this collective space of connected thought. So I stole the name and No.2 and co. are still waiting for royalties.

I’ve spent this week doing the boring stuff I like to put off because its far more fun to get muddy! So I’ve listed a few of my most popular pieces for backorder.

You’ll notice the reoccurrence of what I like to call my blueberry cheesecake glaze. My husband sees blue cheese, but it doesn’t sound as good. I love this glaze. It's unpredictable in a good way. It depends so much on the specific firing conditions so you never know what you’re going to get. I like to think of it as a kiln collab. If you’re game to take a little gamble on some magic, nab yourself one!

I’ve also figured out how to sync my shop to social media. Kicking goals!

Sometimes it’s all you can manage, and it’s good enough. This year I’ve even surrendered gift purchasing to my better half, and he’s done a stellar job.

I’m known for being a bit of a Christmas nut. I used to spend the entire month of December creating the “magic of Christmas”. It was exhausting and not much fun, if I’m honest. The last couple of years, I’ve been too busy to obsess. And guess what? Christmas has been far more pleasurable! For me and for the family.

Can you spot the Christmas pickle? It’s our family tradition. It reminds me to lighten up. I hope you’re surviving the festivities homestretch. Remember to be kind to yourself and take some time to actually enjoy it.

Last night I went on a magical walk too special to keep to myself. This doesn’t quite capture the thickness of the fog or the isolation of the moment. I felt for an instant like I was completely alone. Just a flutter of panic mixed with the comfort of my solitude. Some days the little niggles get the best of me and my brain kind of snaps. Yesterday was one of those days. I’m an introvert and alone time allows me to recharge and unwind. Much love from Czechia. ###

My making this festive season has been a bit stop start. I haven’t been as productive as I’d hoped but I did manage to pop out some special items for Christmas and they’re all ready to go. I’ve just got to get them up on my shop. So, I’m feeling organised and disorganised! I only made two of these sets, both unique forms. I enjoyed free hand drawing the shapes. It gives them a natural flow. I was hoping the dark bowl would come out a deeper red but I’ve learnt to let go of expectations. I do find so many life lessons from the ceramic process! I’m hoping these will go up in my shop but trying not to promise what I may not deliver. If you’re interest, feel free to DM me and I’ll put them aside. ###

After my aborted overseas trip in September (due to a very untimely case of covid), I’m finally having a little break with my Mum in Germany! Everything’s been taken down off my shop until I get a chance to update it with my latest products. In the meantime, I still have some items available through .au online store. I’ll be posting pics of my Christmas wares whenever I get a break from relaxing and being spoilt!

A big THANK YOU to clay sydney] for hosting the big clay day yesterday and for looking after us with water and snacks! Despite the unusually hot and sunny 😎 day I managed to avoid getting sunburnt! YAY! And it was lovely to meet new people, some ceramics enthusiast and a few potential new studio mates. If you missed out on the speed clay sessions, don’t miss out on booking a full class. I can personally attest to the noise and laughter generated by these classes at the clay sydney] studios!
