Step behind the lens with the Young Camera Club during their Open House weekend — a celebration of local photography and community connection.

The Hilltops Markets Trail invites you to explore all three Hilltops towns and their surrounding villages — town by town, weekend by weekend — with creativity and community at the centre.

Each weekend of the Hilltops Off The Beaten Track Art & Cultural Trail, a local market pops up in a different Hilltops town. It’s the perfect way to plan your creative track across the region.

Start your day wandering the market — soak up the atmosphere, browse handmade goods and local produce, chat with stallholders — then head out to nearby galleries, exhibitions, open studios and creative spaces as part of the Art Trail.

The markets add a relaxed, social rhythm to your trail experience. They give you time to slow down, discover local stories, meet the people behind the work, and really enjoy the character of each town and its neighbouring villages — over three weekends.

Get out and about in the Hilltops. Take your time and get off the beaten track with us.

Why the Hilltops Off The Beaten Track Art & Cultural Trail has become such an important event

In small regional communities, long-term success doesn’t come from crowds — it comes from connection and collaboration.

The Hilltops Off The Beaten Track Art & Cultural Trail matters because it:

• encourages people to move town to town, weekend to weekend and not just visit once

• supports artists, venues and local businesses together

• creates reasons for visitors to stay, eat, shop and return

• helps locals rediscover the amazing hidden gems across our region

• gives young people and emerging creatives a place to be seen

And it doesn’t end when the Trail wraps up in March.

It lives on through the year — with more local businesses hosting artists, more artists coming together for classes and workshops, and the quality (and visibility) of local artwork lifting year after year. It gives our professional artists a platform to be discovered — and extends their reach well beyond the region.

It’s not one venue.
It’s not one weekend.
It’s a shared effort across the whole Hilltops.

That’s what makes it more than an arts event — it’s a community and economic story unfolding in real time.

Hilltops Off The Beaten Track returns:
64 events will colour up the region in a two-week arts celebration.

Opening Night: Friday 13 March 2026 | Art & Cultural Trail: 14–29 March 2026

The Hilltops is set to come alive with colour, creativity and community spirit as the 2026 Hilltops Off the Beaten Track Art & Cultural Trail transforms the region into a vibrant, immersive arts experience across Young, Boorowa, Harden–Murrumburrah and the villages in between.

With 64 events currently on the program, the Trail spans two inspiring weeks and three big weekends, inviting locals and visitors to explore everything from exhibitions, workshops and open studios to live performances and pop-up creative experiences in galleries, community spaces, wineries and favourite local venues.

Opening Night will be held at Southern Cross Cinema & Arts Complex on Friday 13 March 2026, launching a region-wide celebration that runs from 14–29 March 2026.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said the Trail is about more than viewing art — it’s about stepping into the stories, landscapes and creative heart of the Hilltops.

“You’ll find art in unexpected places, meet the people behind the work, and experience the region town by town — with something for every age and interest.” said Chris Burnett from Hilltops Arts Inc.

Make a weekend of it: Markets + Art + Wine

Visitors can build a full Hilltops adventure by pairing the Art Trail with two signature companion experiences that have come on board for the 2026 Art Trail.

• The Hilltops Markets Trail — start at the markets, then follow the art across towns and villages, weekend by weekend, with community at the centre.

• The Hilltops Wine Trail — discover art exhibitions at our cellar doors, combined with cool-climate reds, long lunches and laid-back vineyard experiences that celebrate the region’s wine culture.
