Greek Film Society Brisbane

Greek Film Society Brisbane Aims to provide members with a stimulating program of films from old and new Greek cinema in a variety of genres.

Screenings take place in twelve monthly programs at the Greek Club 29 Edmondstone St South Brisbane QLD. All films have English subtitles and projection is in DVD format. Screenings are followed by discussion and films are introduced by members or special guest speakers. The society’s activities are conducted in both English or Greek. For those who want to catch a meal before the screening, the Od

yssey Taverna is open for tasty and affordable meals, located at the Greek Club. To attend screenings one must become a member (trial screening free) membership and screening subscriptions are as follows:

One year membership (aprox 10 films) – $30
and for students or pensioners – $25

The film titled "Kapodistrias" is a historical drama set in the early 19th century, telling the true story of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the greatest Greek statesman and the first Governor of Greece after its liberation from the Ottomans.
He defends the freedom of every individual with strength, kindness, and dignity, even sacrificing the great love of his life. Unafraid to confront the forces of evil, he renounces wealth, glory, and international recognition.
When Greece gains its independence, Kapodistrias is called upon to become its first Governor. Although he senses he will be assassinated, he accepts his fate without complaint and sacrifices himself, serving his homeland with unwavering faith and devotion.
