You've probably noticed a theme with fun fish Fact Friday, we've done Nemo and Marlin the clownfish now we move on to Dory for this Friday fun fact:
Did you know the Blue Tang is actually part of the Surgeonfish family. This family is named for the sharp, scalpel-like spines at the base of their tails, which they use to fight or defend themselves.

Fun Fish Fact Friday
Because I'm enjoying the sun and surf not far from the stunning Great Barrier Reef, it seemed only fair that today's Fun fact was centred around this beautiful part of the world.
Did you know, that the great barrier Reef is home to around 1600 different species of fish ranging in size from very tiny reef fish to very large predators.
It is also estimated that there are over a 1000 species of corals found in the Barrier Reef ranging from hard corals to soft corals.

*Photo was taken at a place called 1770 and is the site of Captain Cooks landing on Australia shores. If you haven't been i recommend the trip to 1770 it is beautiful*

Reef madness Monday
I've done a few posts now on the success story of the reef tank from scratch and how great the tank is going.

But sometimes, it doesn't always go to plan and even experienced reefers do make rookie mistakes and bring everything unstuck. I learnt this lesson just recently
After treating a simple algae outbreak because the snails weren't keeping up, I completely nuked the tank and everything except the snails in it. Turns out I had bigger problems than just the algae. And after racking my brain trying to workout how it went wrong. A second opinion on the water was in order and turns out the salinity in the tank was so far off the mark. Basically my marine fish were in freshwater not salt.

The solution was an easy one do a massive water change and remove all the water from the tank, give everything a good clean and fill it up again.
And repeat the process.

To all those beginners out there that thing 'oh this is too hard' or 'what if I kill everything' don't worry even the professionals still make rookie mistakes too
We learn from them and seek advice from more knowledgeable fish people.

REEF MADNESS MONDAY:
6 weeks in and this tank is currently holding steadying. All stock is thriving and water testing has been exactly as expected and perfect.
So this week we've added a few soft corals and now it's starting to look like a reef tank.

Tell me it's water change day without telling me its water change day 😄

REEF MADNESS MONDAY
Two weeks in and this tank is looking amazing.
Water has been testing perfectly and it's now starting to look like a reef tank.

The tank has been stocked with beginner friendly fish courtesy of Finvision Aquariums

I do have a confession to make that thanks to a Facebook freebie, we've jumped a head a few steps and added more live rock covered in Coral.
