🎬 Submissions for the Far South Film Festival 2026 are now closed - and we're thrilled by the response from filmmakers across Australia. Entries came from NSW, Victoria, the ACT, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

The selection process has officially begun, and our jury has some wonderful work to consider.

This year's entries showcase a fantastic range of genres - drama, mockumentary, documentary and music films - and we're especially excited by a strong showing of Southeast NSW and youth films. The next generation of regional filmmakers is very much here, and making their voices heard.

To every filmmaker who submitted: thank you. It takes courage and dedication to put your work out into the world, and we're grateful you chose to share it with us. We look forward to celebrating your stories on the big screen.

🎬 Far South Film Presents: ALPHABET LANE - with Q&A
Join us for a special one-night screening of Alphabet Lane, the indie Australian drama filmed in the breathtaking Monaro region of NSW - followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
When: Sunday 14 June, 7pm
Where: Headland Theatre, Tathra

Anna and Jack have left the city for a quieter life -but when reality fails to live up to the dream, they invent an imaginary neighbour to keep themselves amused. What starts as a joke slowly takes on a life of its own. When letters begin to arrive from their fictional friend, the game shifts to the very heart of their relationship.

Starring Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Apple Cider Vinegar) and Nicholas Denton (Dangerous Liaisons), and directed by Cooma-raised filmmaker James Litchfield in his feature debut, this is a film that's close to home in every sense.

"Dark, well-paced... blends genres and emotional registers"
Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian

Screening at Headland Theatre, Tathra on Thursday 21 May at 2pm and 7pm is the first in Headland's "Arthouse" series - Ken Loach's (possibly) final film, 'The Old Oak.'

Set in a former mining town in northern England, this powerful and deeply human story explores community, resilience and what it means to find common ground in changing times. Anchored in a local pubβ€”the last place left for people to gatherβ€”the film is both a moving social portrait and a quietly hopeful reflection on connection and belonging.

The feature will be prefaced with a short film curated by Far South Film Inc.

Far South Film Presents: ' Alphabet Lane', Sunday 14 June from 7pm at Headland Theatre, Tathra.
'Alphabet Lane '(2026) is a quietly unsettling Australian psychological drama directed by James Litchfield, focusing on a tree-change couple (Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Nicholas Denton) whose isolation leads them to invent fake neighbours. The 80-minute film premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival last year and has been praised for strong performances, lived-in chemistry, and tense atmosphere.
Shot in the Cooma area, where writer/director James Litchfield grew up ,this is a first-time feature for James and Producer Lucinda Reynolds who will be present for the Q&A after the screening.
