🇰🇷 한글날을 기념하며 | Celebrating Hangul Day 🇰🇷

1443년, 세종대왕은 백성들이 자신의 생각과 말을 쉽게 읽고 쓸 수 있도록 우리 고유의 문자인 훈민정음을 창제했습니다. 그리고 1446년, 훈민정음이 세상에 널리 반포되었습니다. 오늘날 우리가 ‘한글’이라 부르는 이 소중한 문자는 한국의 역사와 문화를 이어 주는 자랑스러운 유산입니다.

한글에는 모든 사람이 쉽게 배우고 소통할 수 있기를 바랐던 세종대왕의 애민 정신이 담겨 있습니다.

멀리 호주 밀두라에서도 한글의 아름다움과 가치를 기억하며, 우리의 언어와 문화를 다음 세대와 지역사회에 함께 나누겠습니다.

In 1443, King Sejong the Great created Hunminjeongeum, the Korean writing system we know today as Hangul, to help people read and write their own language more easily. In 1446, it was formally promulgated, marking an important moment in Korean history.

Hangul is more than an alphabet. It is a treasured part of Korea’s cultural heritage, reflecting King Sejong’s vision of making reading, writing and communication accessible to everyone.

Here in Mildura, Australia, Mildura Korean Community Inc. is proud to celebrate Hangul and share the beauty of the Korean language and culture with future generations and our wider community.

🇰🇷🇦🇺 존 코리아(John Corea)를 기억하며 — 호주 한인 역사의 시작을 기립니다

한국 이민 역사에 있어 매우 뜻깊은 순간을 맞이하게 되었습니다.

존 코리아(John Corea)는 호주에 정착한 최초의 한국인 이민자로 알려져 있습니다. 그의 삶과 이야기는 오랫동안 잘 알려지지 않았지만, 송지연 교수(Prof. Jay Song)의 헌신적인 연구를 통해 다시 세상에 알려지게 되었습니다.

송 교수님께서는 오랜 시간과 노력을 들여 존 코리아의 삶과 호주에서의 흔적을 찾아내고, 그 역사적 의미를 밝혀내는 중요한 연구를 이어오셨습니다.

이제 밀두라 한인회도 그 뜻깊은 여정에 함께하고자 합니다.

존 코리아를 기억하고 추모하며, 송 교수님의 소중한 연구와 노력을 응원하기 위해 추모비 제막식을 함께 지원하고자 합니다.

🇰🇷🇦🇺 Honouring John Corea — Remembering the Beginning of Korean History in Australia

We are honoured to support a meaningful moment in the history of the Korean community in Australia.

John Corea is recognised as the first Korean immigrant to Australia. For many years, his story remained little known. Through the dedicated research of Professor Jay Song, his life and historical significance have been brought back into the light.

Professor Song has devoted significant time and effort to uncovering John Corea’s story and helping us understand the important place he holds in the history of Koreans in Australia.

As the Korean community in Mildura, we are proud to support this important work and the upcoming gravestone ceremony honouring John Corea.

This is more than a ceremony. It is an opportunity to remember the person who represents the beginning of the Korean story in Australia, honour his legacy, and preserve this important history for future generations.

We are sharing some wonderful moments from SMECC Fest 2026 – Sunraysia Multicultural Festival, captured and shared by SMECC! 💛

It was a special milestone for Mildura Korean Community Inc. as we took part in the festival with our very first food stall. 🇰🇷🍗

We also loved seeing our Korean children dressed in beautiful hanbok, proudly holding their mini Taegeukgi and waving them at the festival. ❤️

From sharing Korean food to proudly waving the Taegeukgi together, it was a wonderful opportunity to share a little piece of Korean culture with our wider community in Sunraysia.

We look forward to more opportunities in the future to share Korean culture, including performances and other cultural activities, with the Mildura community. 🌏🤝
