Today is a very special day. MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!!!
It is also the closing night of Feminerd, and I have to thank two very special people! Without whom this show would not have made it off the ground.

First up,

Caleb Garfinkel Music describes himself as ‘one engaged in the act of musical creation, discussion and education’ – as the term ‘musician’ was just too limiting. An adaptable guitarist, singer, composer, teacher and scholar, Caleb never quite feels he’s doing enough - an ethos that constantly gets him in trouble, or at least causes rampant sleep deprivation.

Armed with a Master of Arts (Music Performance), Caleb is focused on marrying his love of improvised music with spontaneous stage antics, and incorporating the guitar into his many musical interests, with an undying addiction for finding ways to create as much music as possible on a single guitar.

Formerly a dreadlocked singer/songwriter (…Frogs in my Head, 2007), a typical week of performances now finds him in musical theatre pits (In The Heights, 2015); musical directing cabarets (KaDo Warehouse, Matthew Grant; Dolly Diamond Under a Big Top, 2015) and high school musicals; bouncing through late-night pub sets; improvising musical scores for comedy troupes (The Big Hoo-Haa); huddled over a laptop in strange electronica dives (dis’pers); curating the Melbourne Album Series (Damien Rice’s O, 2014); playing the ‘background classical guitar guy’ at cafes and restaurants; funking for your cousin’s wedding, or crooning for your grandmother’s 70th

Introducing the next dynamic duo who are so sensational and amazing! I am very privileged to have one of their songs in this show!!!

Composer Loclan Mackenzie-Spencer and lyricist Andrew Strano have been writing new musical theatre together since making their debut as the joint Melbourne winners of the YTICC 10th Annual International Cabaret Showcase in 2012. In 2014 they opened “Nailed It!” (a showcase of their work) to 5 star reviews, garnering Andrew a nomination for Theatrepeople's Best Male Cabaret Performer and winning the Green Room Award for Best Original Songs. "Nailed It!" continues its' life, crossing the pond to the Edinburgh Fringe later this year.

Loclan is a Melbourne-based pianist (repetiteur: Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Grey Gardens, and The Boy From Oz), composer (winner: Betty Amsden Award for Orchestral Composition), arranger, and conductor. As a music director his credits include Calvin Berger, Cabaret, and the new works Strange Bedfellows and Doctor Zhivago (currently playing on Broadway). He was the Associate Musical Director for the Australasian tour of Wicked, and is currently preparing for the new Australian musical Ned, which is based on the life of Ned Kelly.

A writer, improviser, cabaret artist and musical theatre performer, Andrew is a graduate of The Victorian College of the Arts (Music Theatre), the iO Theater in Chicago, Melbourne’s Improv Conspiracy and Danceworld 301. He has performed Improv professionally for over 2 years, including on the Annoyance and iO theatre stages in Chicago, and was nominated for Best Comedy as a part of the Improv Conspiracy’s touring company’s Perth Fringeworld season in 2015. He has toured nationally and internationally as a Musical Theatre performer and qualified twice as one of only 30 semifinalists for the Australian National Music Theatre award, the Rob Guest Endowment.

There are so many people who contributed to Feminerd! This woman will forever be in my heart! I feel like she is my artistic soulmate.

Anya Anastasia (singer/songwriter) grew up in the performing arts world- she trained on the road, at the ragged edge, on the fringe circuit…

'Anastasia embodies the original meaning of burlesque. She sings hilarious and b***y and clever songs, teasing our minds rather than our libidos.’ - Melbourne Arts Fashion 2015.

Anya Anastasia is a sassy cabaret chanteuse with a vivid and somewhat twisted imagination. Anastasia writes and performs her own unique brand of cabaret. Currently living between Adelaide and Melbourne, she has traversed the globe with her original songs and bold performance pieces appearing at festivals in Europe- including the Prague Fringe, and around Australia and NZ.

"Anya’s cynical lovestruck songs ...will grab your ears and bend them sideways.” Sunday Mail

'Devilishly intriguing vocalist Anya (Anastasia) weaves blackly-humoured tragic-comic tales over crazy keyboards ...as if she were the carnival-raised offspring of Tom Waits and Cabaret’s Sally Bowles.’ The Advertiser

Delighted to have met Miss Everheart in September last year, it is my great pleasure to be a contributor to this project. Xx

Want to meet the amazing people who helped me out?

First up, is Karin Danger, who was the very first person I approached with my idea, loved it as much as I did, and who took my terrible lyrics and made them 100 times better with her magical musical skills!

Karin Muiznieks is a composer and performer of musical mayhem. She has written many cabaret shows, comedy shows and musical theatre pieces, toured the world and won a stack of awards. Karin's favourite achievement is her family band The Von Muiznieks Family Singers. Her least favourite achievement was qualifying for Australia's Got Talent. Karin is currently in New Orleans learning how to jazz.
