A fantastic write up of the Passion of Christ - A retreat through the art of Terry FFyffe on the Melbourne Catholic website this week. The exhibition was hosted by the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne Campus. (ACU)

The pics below show some of the painting in situ with Father Nathan Rawlins who prepared most of the reflections for the retreat.

We are very grateful for the enthusiasm and support of Fr Nathan and Jeremy Ambrose in providing opportunities for Terry's work to be seen and used in creative ways. 🙏

This piece included in the "The Passion of Christ" exhibition - A retreat through the art of Terry FFyffe the Australian Catholic University (ACU) Fitzroy is Terry's depiction of the Crowning with Thorns, or the Mocking of Christ.

We are lucky enough to have Terry's own insights and words about this piece which were recorded in an interview in the Catholic Life Magazine in October 2012.

"In the Mocking of Christ, I see this as a time when Christ has put away his Divine Power and allowed himself to be at the mercy of Satan in the from of the mockers.

This is Satan's hours... and he is relishing it. I have tried to emphasise the shallowness of evil by making the figures theatrical adn grotesque...as if in a play...a black comedy...a tragic and brutal dsiplay of baseness of human cruelty...to show the vanity of the ego's power.

Christ submits to this tirade in humble obedience."

This exhibition is on now until Tuesday 24 March and is a self guided 30 min audio retreat where people can use the paintings as an invitation to explore and reflect within.

The exhibition is in the Greg Craven Centre, St Teresa Building, 115 Victoria Parade, on Level 7, (and as the room is also used occasionally for classes), bookings are necessary - use booking link https://au.eglink.me/2iC/r63667 or QR code in the picture.

One of the beautiful paintings on display at ACU Melbourne 'The Passion of Christ - A Retreat Through the Art of Terry Ffyffe'.

We are lucky to have some insights into Terry's own thoughts about this painting. The following is a quote from Catholic Life Magazine October 2012 who interviewed Terry about these works.

"My feelings are about the loneliness of Christ. He knows what lays before him...his disciples do not...the human side of Christ is terrified...he has relinquished his power.

He knows that it is his fathers will that he suffer unto death..and a bloody and cruel death it will be. Christ begs his father to take away the cup of suffering that he must drink...and how he should have welcomed some support...yet his disciples are ablivious and sleep while he is going through his agony. I have chosen the moment when he can hear the betrayer and soldiers entering the garden. How his blood must have run cold...all the build up...and he thinking that maybe he will be given a reprieve from his father...and now it's all about to happen as he dreaded."

It was a privilege to be present and speak at the opening of the Passion of Christ exhibition at ACU Melbourne, opened this morning by Chancellor Annie Carrett from the Archdiocese of Melbourne. All of the works on exhibition were painted by Terry Ffyffe across his career. The exhibition is open until Tuesday 24 March. Huge thanks to Jeremy Ambrose and Fr Nathan for your vision and inspiration.

The upcoming "The Passion of Christ" exhibition - A Lenten retreat through the art of Terry FFyffe starts tomorrow at the Australia Catholic University (ACU) Fitzroy.

This exhibition will run during Lent until Wednesday 25th March and everyone is invited to attend. It's a self guided 30 min audio retreat where people can use the paintings as an invitation to explore and reflect within.

The event will be officially opened on Thursday 5 March at 10.30am. There is no need to book if you attend the opening.

We are delighted to share that another piece of Terry's work has sold following the exhibition at Gallery Unbound back in September. This piece is one of a series of 4 mixed media works on paper that remained in the gallery after the exhibition was over. Thank you Christina for continuing to share Terry's work with your audience.
