🌹 THE ROSES ARE READY TO CONQUER GLASGOW 🌹
Head coach Anna Stembridge has officially unveiled her lethal 12-player England netball squad for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, signaling a masterful blend of elite international experience and explosive domestic form. Anchored by six returning silver-medallists from the 2023 Netball World Cup, this selection demonstrates a highly structured tactical flexibility designed to break down any international defensive style. With Francesca Williams stepping into the captaincy and the dynamic Liv Tchine named as vice-captain, Team England has engineered a roster that balances defensive grit with highly synchronized attacking transitions.

Tactically, the shooting circle offers a menacing combination of raw volume and clever playmaking variety. The clinical baseline presence of Eleanor Cardwell and Liv Tchine ensures a high-percentage target under the post, while the addition of Sasha Glasgow provides an elite long-range threat and secondary playmaking capability out to the goal attack line. Complemented by Lois Pearson’s creative feeds and spatial awareness, this shooting unit gives Stembridge the luxury of seamlessly switching between an aggressive, traditional holding game and a fast-moving, mobile frontline capable of stretching defensive units.

The true engine room of this squad lies in its defensively sound, tempo-dictating midcourt and a relentless defensive circle. The return of 2018 Commonwealth champion Nat Metcalf brings invaluable leadership and elite vision to the wing attack position, perfectly balancing the high-intensity work rates of Imo Allison and Amy Carter in the center circle, alongside the clinical ball placement of Jess Shaw. Defensively, England boasts arguably the most athletic intercept unit in world netball. The pairing of Francesca Williams' tactical positioning with Funmi Fadoju’s unmatched vertical reach, supported by the physical presence of Halimat Adio and Jayda PechovĆ”, creates a multi-layered defensive wall designed to force errors and fuel rapid counter-attacks.

From the Center Court to the Living Room: Why Toddler Life is the Ultimate Netball Drill (and We’re Exhausted) šŸ‘¶šŸ¼šŸ

To every netball mum currently sitting on the sidelines or on maternity leave: let’s talk about a different kind of match fitness.

When you stepped away from the court to have your baby, you might have thought, "Finally, a break from the grueling three-man weaves, the endless su***de drills, and the brutal fitness blocks." You thought your lungs and legs were getting a well-deserved rest from the high-intensity demands of the game.

But then your baby turned into a toddler. And suddenly, you realized the court had just changed venues.

Honestly? A 60-minute, high-intensity pre-season training session under a blazing sun has nothing on a 12-hour shift with a tiny, unpredictable human who doesn't understand the rules of the game.

Psychologically, it’s a whole new league. On the court, you have boundaries. You have an umpire. You have a whistle that stops the play when things get out of hand. In the living room? There is no whistle. There is no offside line. Your toddler will aggressively mark you into the kitchen, the bathroom, and right to the edge of your sanity.

The physical demands are wild. You thought your agility was tested trying to shake off a tight Wing Defence? Try dodging a rogue flying block of Duplo while carrying a basket of laundry, or drop-stepping at lightning speed to catch a spilling cup of juice before it stains the rug. Your muscle memory from years of "footwork, footwork, footwork" is the only thing keeping you from tripping over a plastic dinosaur. You are constantly on a 3-second held-ball count just trying to eat a piece of toast before it gets snatched out of your hand.

But the emotional load is where the real game is won or lost.

On the court, when you’re fatigued, you can look at your bench and call for a tactical substitution. You can take a breather. As a mum at home, the mental endurance required is immense. You are the coach, the captain, the primary defender, and the medical staff all at once. There are moments of pure exhaustion where you miss the simplicity of a heavy training session—because at least on the court, you knew exactly what drill was coming next.

Yet, just like the toughest, most grueling matches that you win by a single goal in the final second, the reward is sweeter than anything else.

Because right after a massive "turnover" (usually involving an exploded diaper or a spectacular tantrum), that tiny human will sprint across the room, launch their entire body into your arms for a massive hug, and suddenly, you’ve won the grand final. Seeing them learn to catch a big soft ball in the hallway, or watching their little face light up when they finally "intercept" a toy, makes every single chaotic second worth it. It’s the sweetest, most exhausting premiership you’ll ever play in.

You might be free from court work right now, mums, but you are currently running the hardest, most beautiful bleep test of your life. And you are doing an incredible job.

šŸ‘‡ Mums, let’s hear it: What’s the craziest "toddler drill" you’ve had to run this week? Are you currently using your netball defence stance to keep your little one away from the dog bowl?

Tag your netball club mums who are currently in the thick of maternity leave or toddler chaos—let’s remind them they’re still the MVPs! šŸ‘‘šŸ‘‡

The Ultimate Netball Wardrobe Malfunction: The Oversized Bib Struggle šŸ˜®šŸ’Ø

Long before teams started wearing sleek, perfectly tailored modern kits, local netball was a lawless land of hand-me-down club gear. And if you played back then, you definitely know the specific trauma of pulling the short straw at the bottom of the kit bag.

We’ve all been there: you get handed a velcro or tie-on bib that was clearly designed for someone three sizes larger than you.

Instead of focusing on your game, you spent the next 60 minutes fighting for your life against your own uniform. Every time you sprinted, it slipped off your shoulders. Every time you went up for an intercept, it flew up into your face.

But the absolute worst? The crowded penalty setups in the shooting circle. There was nothing quite like the panic of a sudden RIP sound as your rogue velcro violently detached itself from your chest and stuck to the opposing shooter's dress. Talk about tight marking!

It’s an absolute rite of passage for every grassroots player out there.

Did your club use the classic tie-ons or the lethal scratchy velcro bibs? Tag your old teammates and remind them of the days we played looking like we were wearing oversized sails!

The Lifeline of Every Netballer: Halftime Oranges šŸŠ

Let’s be honest—it didn't matter if you were playing in a torrential downpour, freezing wind, or scorching heat. It didn't matter if you were currently winning by twenty or getting absolutely thrashed. The moment that plastic container or tray appeared at the court boundary, everything changed.

If you grew up playing netball, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The universal savior of Saturday mornings: the halftime orange wedges.

There was a specific kind of magic in sitting on a freezing metal bench with wind-burned cheeks, eagerly grabbing a sticky slice of citrus. Suddenly, you forgot about your grazed knees and the umpire’s questionable contact calls. You’d suck on that orange, aggressively discuss tactical shifts with your teammates, and get that immediate, sugary second wind to go out and smash the next quarter.

It wasn't just a snack; it was a weekly ritual provided by the real MVPs—the dedicated parents, partners, and bench players who never forgot the supply.

šŸ‘‡Who was the absolute legend who always brought the oranges for your team? Tag them below to say thanks! Or, if you were the designated team orange-cutter, drop a šŸŠ to claim your crown!

šŸ”„ Donnell’s In, But She’s Out: The Diamonds’ Golden Gamble? šŸ’„
Let’s be real for a second—netball fans across the globe are absolutely losing their minds over the Glasgow 2026 Diamonds squad drop, and honestly? Fair enough.

The biggest head-scratcher keeping everyone up at night? Donnell Wallam being relegated to a reserve spot. After the absolute masterclass she’s put on for the Sunshine Coast Lightning this season, seeing her name left out of the core 12 just feels wild. Instead, she’s sitting on the three-player reserve bench alongside Amy Parmenter and Jessie Grenvold.

🧐 The Cold, Hard Analysis: Breaking Down the Circle
If we look past the shock value, the tactical questions this selection raises are massive. Let’s look at the actual court dynamics:

The Jamaican Blockade: We just watched the Thunderbirds’ Jamaican defensive end completely swallow the Vixens' shooting circle in the major semi-final. If international teams roll out that exact same heavy, physical aerial style, how do the Diamonds counter it without a dominant, unstoppable target shooter like Wallam?

The Position Swaps: Cara Koenen has spent a massive chunk of her domestic season out in Goal Attack rather than holding down the back space at GS. Forcing combinations to readjust on the world stage under high pressure is an incredibly risky strategy.

The Form Selection: On the flip side, Sophie Dwyer has had an absolutely stellar, undeniable season at GA. Her long-range shooting and playmaking make her a tactical weapon, but it forces a completely different style of play than what a traditional holding shooter offers.

The Pace vs. Hold Debate: Stacey Marinkovich is clearly banking on high-octane speed, extreme fitness, and a moving, rotating circle. By prioritizing versatility over a powerhouse holding target, the Diamonds are completely shifting their identity for Glasgow.

šŸ‘€ : The Polarizing Truths
Leaving Donnell Wallam out of the main 12 is an arrogant tactical gamble that could genuinely cost Australia the gold medal.

A moving circle with Koenen, Garbin, Dwyer Austin , and Horjus is far too lightweight against world-class, physical international defensive units.

Selectors have reward-earned form over historical reputation, and this youthful, athletic injection is exactly what the aging Diamonds roster needed to stay ahead of the world.

If the Diamonds fail to stand on top of the podium in Glasgow, this specific selection will go down as one of the biggest coaching missteps in modern netball history.

šŸ’¬ Over to You!
Without a traditional, rock-solid holding target in that circle, can the Diamonds actually defend their crown, or have we just handed the advantage to England, New Zealand, and Jamaica?

Drop your predictions below—are you backing Stacey's vision, or is this a massive mistake? šŸ‘‡

The Day "Player Power" Backfired: What the 2018 Silver Ferns Disaster Teaches Us About Netball Coaching

Let’s throw it back to one of the most polarizing eras in modern netball history. Following the Silver Ferns' devastating, medal-less nightmare at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games—which included that absolute shocker of a loss to Malawi—the subsequent independent review didn't just ruffle feathers; it tore the whole coop down. The post-mortem exposed a glaring flaw in Janine Southby’s approach: a highly democratic, "player-led" culture that completely backfired. Instead of empowering the squad, leaving elite athletes with too much autonomy and a lack of firm tactical direction caused them to lose confidence and completely unravel on court. It became the ultimate cautionary tale about the delicate balance between giving players a voice and maintaining firm, authoritative leadership from the bench.

Fast forward to the Dame Noeline Taurua (DNT) era, and the contrast couldn't be more striking. Where Southby’s regime suffered from a lack of boundaries, Taurua brought an uncompromising, iron-clad blueprint. DNT proved that modern netballers don't actually want complete tactical freedom; they crave clarity, accountability, and a coach who isn’t afraid to draw a line in the sand—whether that’s enforcing a brutal 16.3 Yo-Yo test baseline or making ruthless selection calls. The ultimate coaching blueprint isn't about being a dictator or a bystander; it’s about establishing an immovable structural framework, and then allowing player creativity to thrive within those boundaries. Never the less, it backfired as well.

This brings us to the ultimate tactical crossroads that still divides the netball world today. On one side, you have the traditionalists who argue that elite, world-class athletes need strict, top-down direction and an authoritarian mastermind to handle the pressure when a game is on the line. On the flip side, modern sports psychologists insist that a player-led environment is the only way to build long-term resilience and ownership on court, arguing that Southby's ex*****on was simply flawed, not the philosophy itself.

So, where do you stand on this? Do you believe a team can only achieve greatness under a ruthless, uncompromising tactician like DNT, or do you think a genuinely collaborative, player-led culture can actually win world championships if given the right tools?

Drop your thoughts below—are you Team Absolute Authority or Team Player Empowerment? šŸ‘‡

ANZ PREMIERSHIP SHOCKWAVE: Southern Steel Defy the Odds to Book Grand Final Ticket! šŸ”ļøšŸ

You could hear the collective gasp from netball fans all the way across the Tasman. In an absolute postseason classic, the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel just turned the ANZ Premiership landscape completely upside down, ripping up the script to eliminate the defending champion Tactix with a clinical 60–54 victory. It was a masterclass in high-stakes composure, snapping an eight-year hoodoo and proving exactly why you can never write off that iconic Southland grit when everything is on the line.

While the Steel’s attacking end found an unstoppable rhythm, this historic upset was ultimately anchored by a breathtaking defensive clinic from Silver Ferns rising star Carys Stythe. She was an absolute menace in the circle, hunting down matching pairs of 4 intercepts and 4 deflections in the first half alone to completely suffocate the Tactix’s playmaking options. That opening-half blitz completely rattled the reigning champions, allowing the Steel to build a psychological buffer they refused to surrender, even when the inevitable fightback came.

Now, all roads lead to June 27, where a monumental Grand Final clash against the Northern Mystics awaits. The tactical chess match heading into this weekend is mouthwatering, as the Steel look to carry this surging momentum into enemy territory against a rested, hyper-experienced Mystics outfit. If Stythe and her defensive unit can replicate this level of suffocating pressure, we might just be looking at one of the most legendary, fairytale championship runs in modern New Zealand netball history.

The netball community is completely split on this one. Is this Southern Steel team an unstoppable force of destiny that will ride this emotional wave all the way to the trophy, or will the rested, clinical Northern Mystics completely shut down the fairytale on June 27?

Drop your predictions and tell us why below! šŸ†šŸ‘‡

If you want to know what world-class coaching culture looks like, look no further than Reinga Bloxham (Reinga Te Huia).

From her days dominating on court for the legendary Southern Sting in the Coca-Cola Cup era to her masterful 2017–2018 back-to-back ANZ Premiership titles with the Southern Steel, Reinga has always been a winner. But what she’s pulling off right now in the UK Netball Super League is on a whole different level.

When she took the reins at the Cardiff Dragons, everyone knew she’d bring that trademark Kiwi tactical grit. But nobody predicted just how fast she would turn the franchise into an absolute powerhouse.

The 2026 Season Breakthrough:

A Historic Finish: Reinga just guided the Dragons to their best-ever NSL finish since 2014.

Coach of the Season: Deservedly crowned the league's top coach for unlocking the squad's true potential.

The Culture Shift: It’s not just about the Xs and Os; the unmatched energy, tactical belief, and elite standard she has injected into both the Dragons and the Welsh Feathers program is nothing short of inspiring. She has given Welsh netball its swagger back.

Reinga didn’t just move across the world to coach—she moved to build an empire.

šŸ‘‡Where do you rank Reinga among the world's best netball tacticians right now? Can the Dragons push even further next season? Drop your thoughts below! šŸ‘‡

GLASGOW 2026: Expect the Unexpected. Who Rules the Court This Time? šŸ‘‘šŸ

We are officially one month away from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, and if the drama from Birmingham taught us anything, it’s that international netball has completely shattered the old status quo. The days of predictably locking in an Australia vs. New Zealand final are officially over.

The netball world has blown wide open, and the storylines heading into Scotland are absolutely thrilling.

Let’s look at the landscape:

The Giant-Killers: Remember Birmingham? Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls completely stunned the Diamonds in the pool stages and ultimately pushed all the way to a historic grand finale. Meanwhile, the Uganda She Cranes won the hearts of the crowd with a stellar, relentless performance to finish an unbelievable 5th.

The Redemption Arc: The Silver Ferns missed out on the gold medal match entirely in Birmingham—a massive shock to the system. You can bet they are heading to Glasgow with a massive point to prove.

The Wildcards: With the gap closing at the top, the biggest question on every analyst’s mind is: who is going to play out of their skin this time? Will Malawi or South Africa pull off the next massive tournament upset? Or will another African nation or home side completely disrupt the podium?

The tactics are sharper, the athletes are fitter, and the margins for error have never been thinner. Glasgow is about to be an absolute pressure cooker.

šŸ‘‡ Who is your podium prediction for Glasgow 2026? Can Jamaica go one step further and claim gold, or will the Silver ferns overcome the 2022 storm to clinch gold after a long desert of trials šŸ‘‡
