“Gay Life Drawing Melbourne” is a monthly event held at 'Hares & Hyena's Bookshop' for adults to partake in a fun, friendly space of self-expression and ‘drink and draw’ with live models.
We invite experienced artists, beginners with no experience and curious cats of all walks to attend. Each session will be delightfully themed, alternating between male and female models and sometimes multiple models posing together. Themes will reflect gay culture, art and cinema.
Our very first workshop was on the 10th of January and we SOLD OUT all tickets, was an amazing way to kick off the the year! The first featured model was KIAH, a Melbourne based model and artist of his own right. It was a great success, the room was filled with good vibes and creative energy, was so great to see a diverse attendance of men and women of different age groups.
There were supportive feedback from those who attended, one participant in particular said simply “THANK YOU for giving this to the gay community” I couldn’t have asked for a better response as this was the main reason I wanted to do this in the first place, giving q***r artists especially an opportunity to come together as a community and express themselves creatively, working with live models - who are also a given a chance to express themselves as models/artists.
This year I've thrown together a selection of my top 10 portraits, not necessarily based on what I think are the best shots but some that hold the best moments for me.
Thanks to everyone who looked at me from the other side of the lens in 2019.
