In August we continue our evenings of inspiring artist talks paired with delicious food and wine offerings. This month we hear from Iranian born Award winning artist/photographer and filmmker Hoda Afshar.

Through her art practice, Hoda explores the nature and possibilities of documentary image-making. Working across photography and moving-image, she considers the representation of gender, marginality, and displacement. In her work, she employs processes that disrupt traditional image-making practices, play with the presentation of imagery, or merge aspects of conceptual, staged, and documentary photography.

Hoda's work 'Remain', filmed on Manus Island is currently exhibiting on the Bunjil Place Outdoor Screen as part of Art After Dark.

For full details and to book for Art Bites on Thursday 25 August, visit bit.ly/bp-ArtBites-HodaAfshar

Take a piece of garbage and transform it into a piece of functional, up-cycled art. Just find a used vessel at home like an old jam jar, a dirty terracotta pot from the garden, a glass bottle from the recycling bin, an empty soup can, or a cracked mug that you would otherwise throw away.

Over the 1.5 hour workshop we will use different techniques to transform the piece of rubbish into an artwork that you can display at home, and/or use as a pot planter or flower vase! You will also need to supply your own art materials. If you can’t access an art store, you can use household items such as acrylic house paints, sharpies/posca pens, pencils, paper, glue, images cut out from magazines/books, stickers, rhinestones and more. See you there!

💥Photography by Mysha Islam
now showing at Cranbourne Library Art Space until Saturday 28 May 2022

Mysha Islam is a Bangladeshi-origin Muslim creative artist, currently based in Melbourne, Australia. Her conceptual photography entails expressing herself in a single photo. She perceives the world through a childlike mind to bring out the creativity in everyday objects, which is often overlooked by an average adult.
Mysha's minimalist approach to photography involves simplicity and storytelling to convey a deeper message about life, which is an effective way to communicate with the greater audience.

For this exhibition Mysha is presenting two bodies of work: Our Lockdown Days 2020 and Big Pictures with Small Things – conceptual photography
