We are having a lil work bee this Friday at 2:30pm Come on down and give the Labyrinth a bit of TLC ❤
The Merri Creek Labyrinth was created by the community for the community over 18 Years ago. It is a significant environmental art instillation, and is the only known Labyrinth in a Melbourne park.
The Friends of the Labyrinth was formed in 2011 to help preserve, safeguard and care for the Labyrinth. We have been urging the City of Yarra to maintain and include it in future plans for Hewson's Hollow.
Operating as usual

Hello Lovely Labyrinth lovers!
Friends of the Labyrinth's first garden bed has been planted out with tube stock today!!
You have probably noticed that the flagged bed between the Labyrinth and the shared path has been cleared and now mulched.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we were unable to go ahead with plans for this to be a Community Planting Day. Instead, planting has been done by Felix Botanica, Yarra Council's biodiversity contractor.
It's also great seeing their plantings increase along the path from the Quarries Park down to the Labyrinth.
We look forward to seeing 800 herbaceous flowers transform the first Labyrinth garden bed over the next12 months.
The garden bed will remain roped off to protect the tiny plants .
We can't organise a weeding working bee of the Labyrinth during lockdown, but please feel free to dig out a thistle or two any time you are there - thanks in advance!

Dear Labyrinth Friends
We are happy to announce that the Friends of the Merri Creek Labyrinth have received a grant from City of Yarra!
We hope this will become a multi-year project with the objective that will
1. Create native gardens around the Labyrinth.
2. Improve the sustainability of the Labyrinth.
This year, the focus will be a native garden bed between the Labyrinth and the pathway, restoring habitat for our non-human relatives.
We are working with the City of Yarra and their biodiversity contractor Felix Botanica to prepare the site for a community planting day of 800 wildflower plants, probably in early September…
*We shall give keep you posted on the details of the community planting day closer to a confirmed date.
We wanted to give a big shout-out and thank you to Angela Merriam and Matthew Campbell for steering us through developing the grant application and to all the 1,291 supporters on the https://www.change.org/merricreeklabyrinth petition.
We will soon be inviting expressions of interest to join our Steering Committee to plan for the future development of the Labyrinth and welcome any suggestions or skills within the community as we move forward.
Thanks again to all, watch this space!

A lovely performance is happening at the Labyrinth this Sunday...The show is a musical retelling of the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice for children one and all!
Hello lovely Labyrinth lovers!
It's time for a little TLC for the Labyrinth, to chip out weeds, tidy up fallen Wishes and say hello again!
We also want to chat a bit more about exciting news just to hand - we have received a grant from City of Yarra to begin a multi -year project to revitalise the Labyrinth, starting with revegetation of one area to provide more habitat for indigenous birds, butterflies, reptiles etc.

'Walking home to country is a connection our people have always had with Mother Earth. Our culture is defined by the closeness of family circles and staying connected to the people within it. The labyrinth invites and welcomes people to walk the path together – it calls them to the land in oneness.' (Aunty Ali Golding, Aboriginal Elder, Biripi Nation)

NEVER THE WRONG PATH
You cannot walk the 'wrong' path.
You can only walk the path.
For a moment, be present.
Breathe.
Let the past recede into the evening.
Feel your feet held on the vastness of the Earth.
Hear sounds shimmering all around you.
You cannot know you are walking the wrong path.
You are simply walking the path you are walking, walking the path you cannot not walk.
Your walking makes it the path.
The path of this moment.
The only path you can touch.
The path your senses are meeting.
Behold, your path reveals itself in front of you, always.
Only a thought calls it wrong or right.
With doubt as your trusted guide, walk with courage...
In every sacred moment.
In every Now of Now.
Through every breath.
Through every joy and sorrow.
This is your path.

A short and sweet hyperlapse of the Merri Creek Labyrinth being SOLVED in Clifton Hill, Melbourne, Australia. It looks like a giant fingerprint if you ask me...
The Labyrinths winter mulch coat has been applied and a a new sign installed! Thanx all that were involved x😍x
Friends of Merri Creek Labyrinth
It's great to see the Labyrinth basically in good shape, and so well loved and used.
Now it's time to add its winter clothes - a good layer of mulch, which will help suppress weed growth and allow rain to drain through without creating muddy paths.
Can you help for an hour or two on
- Saturday 20th July from 10am -
Yarra Council has given us a good pile of mulch, but dropped it across the other side of the path, so "many hands will make light work" to bucket or barrow and spread around the Labyrinth.
It would be great if you could bring a bucket or two and gardening gloves. 💕 Hope to see you !!!
Love this....

Hi Lovely Labyrinth Lovers! The usual work bee this time of year is well overdue, so let us give the Labyrinth a lil' bit of ❤️
Next Saturday the 16th of Feb...Come on down between 10-12pm, we will have some lunch afterwards at a local cafe.
Hope to see u there! x
Dear Merri Creek Labyrinth Friends
As we pass the winter solistce, we greet the promise of lengthening days, if perhaps also colder and more damp... and we trust you keep well and centred in the midst of life's busyness.
Winter is often a time to go inwards, enjoying warmth and reflection, but it's also an opportunity to embrace winter's invitation to invigoration.
Our Labyrinth also needs to put on it's winter cloak and you are invited to join us from 11am Friday 29th June to help cover it's bare-ness. Yarra Council have contributed a load of mulch, and some willing hands will make light work of spreading it... just bring some gardening gloves, and perhaps a bucket, tho we will have some there too.
While we are there, we'll say hello to the Wishing Tree, attend to a little tidy-up, and check if any surrounding weeds need a haircut - thanks to the anonymous weed-pullers who faithfully do this randomly, also.
All this might well lead to a cuppa and a bite to eat at a local cafe, as you wish.
We hope you can join us and look forward to your company.

It throws light on ancient cult practices, says freelance archaeologist
A favourite quote by Joseph Campbell…….
“Furthermore, we have not even to risk the adventure alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us,
The labyrinth is fully known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path and where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god;
where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence;
Where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world.”

You are invited to take time to walk the labyrinth!
It’s a space where individuals and a community can reflectively meditate on their lives. Within the context of an urban yet natural environment, a place to go that makes you feel better...
There is a growing awareness around the world of the benefits of walking the labyrinth for our modern age. This ancient practice can be useful for balancing stress, giving space to reflect on one’s life.
It is broader than any creed or religious belief. There is no one right way to walk a labyrinth.
The path into the centre and out again is designed to ground, balance, and centre you - a walking meditation helping you to find your way through life.
You can use anything that happens in the labyrinth as a metaphor for what is happening in your life. 💕
