MAJOR PIECE OF PUBLIC SCULPTURE CELEBRATES MOUNT EVELYNS ENVIRONMENTAL DIVERSITY
Mt Evelyn's latest environmental art sculpture has started to be installed down at Mt Evelyn Picnic and Recreation Reserve on Tramway Rd.
With one of the original chestnut trees succumbing to termites, Mayor Tony Stevenson has been working with MEEPPA and Australian chainsaw champion Rob Bast to create a celebration of the local flora and fauna found around the Reserve. The base of the sculpture will also highlight some of the unique animals found within Olinda Creek, two of which are endemic to Olinda Creek - the Dandenong Freshwater Amphipod and the Olinda Creek Wingless Stonefly.
Today the main section of the sculpture was set into concrete, and over the coming weeks there will be some finishing touches around the base before it is finalised and officially launched.

Winner of the 2017 Australian Chainsaw Carving Championship,@Rob Bast Sculptor always impresses festival-goers with his beautiful sculptures carved in front of our eyes.
Watching Rob Bast at work with a chainsaw as his primary sculpting tool is an impressive sight. The results and his finished sculptures are even more impressive!
Rob will be hard at work on the main festival day Saturday creating a number of stunning sculptures for display to our visitors.
Rob is a self-taught sculptor from the Yarra Valley in Victoria Australia. He works with various materials such as wood, steel, ice and stone. His work is on display throughout Australia and he features at a number of festivals and shows including the Royal Melbourne Show.
Since 2007 Rob has won a number of chainsaw carving competitions in Australia, Canada, America and Germany.
We're thrilled to have Rob back again this year and look forward to seeing what he creates for us.

Group 10 ASC of NSW Next Generation Delegate & Vice President Lydia Herbert joined Secretary Heather Earney at Heather's home show, Bedgerabong Show, last weekend to award Nathan Clarke the Next Gen award.
Nathan has been recognised by the Bedgerabong Show Society for his continued contribution to not only the show, but also the wider Bedgerabong community. Nathan was surprised with the ribbon during Sunday's post-show clean-up.
Congratulations Nathan on all your hard work and continued contributions to Bedgerabong!
The 2019 Bedgerabong Show was held on Saturday 17 August. In attending the show, Lydia was Farm Produce Judge which despite a dry year still had ample entries. Lydia was also showing her own Brooklyn Park Poll Dorset Stud alongside her partner.
Our Executive Adviser, Hannah Hawker, was the Show Announcer for the day and competed in the dog jump.
Congratulations to our Secretary, Heather Earney, who was named the 2019 Bedgerabong Showgirl. Heather is pictured with Murray Wilton, General Manager of Agriculture at the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW.
Entertainment highlights included Rob Bast Sculptors using chainsaws, Walter Whip and The Flames performances, local students from Bedgerabong Public School - NSW DEC preforming on their Marimba's, the animal nursery, and the lawn mower racing demonstration featuring an Agricultural Societies Council of NSW Ltd Group 10 Director!
