SCAM ALERT 🚨
The ATG has long been aware of quasi tattoo schools offering “tattoo courses” that purport to offer the professional skills required to enter the tattoo industry. These courses offer an incomplete skill set, lacking the ongoing guidance required, let alone an actual job at the end of the course.

This is why the vast majority of tattoo industry participants oppose this type of teaching and skill sharing. And likewise the Guild opposes this teaching model above, and instead supports a more traditional mentor/apprentice model where ongoing guidance and care is required, including obligations for both teacher and apprentice. Most importantly, by keeping the beginning and end of an apprenticeship in-house, the passing of trade knowledge, and the effort required from both parties, can result in an actual job and the start of an individual’s new professional career.

Lately we have seen a number of failing tattoo businesses and artists pivoting toward offering tattoo courses, (as distinct from mentoring apprentices individually). The Guild is yet to see an example in Australia where the quality of work from this type of “teacher” warrants sharing, let alone qualifies them to teach multiple students. Have a look at the quality of their work, and see for yourself why there might be a reason they’re having a hard time making a living from their original craft.

Please be aware that the vast majority of tattoo shops do not value the teachings from outfits offering “tattoo courses”, and in fact oppose this teaching method outright.

The ATG represent the views of its professional members and continues to work to ensure that the sustainability and future of Australian tattooing is protected for all.

GLT in conjunction with the Assange Campaign Australia will be hosting a Flash Day Fundraiser on the 19th August from 10am, and online auction with all proceeds going towards the Assange Campaign!

Prints and original works for the online auction have been donated by some of Australia’s premier tattooers!

The Flash day has a solid line up with laser and piercing specials.

The GLT Family bid farewell to the radical and congratulate him on the opening of his new studio .
Sam takes over this space from Master whose studio lived there for the last 20 years. Prior to that the studio was owned by tattooer Garry Mooney RIP.
An amazing linage.
Sam has been apart of the GLT family for a long time and has worked incredibly hard to establish himself as one of Melbournes premier artists.
It is with great love and respect that we support Sam on this new part of his journey as he carries our culture and heritage forward.
