Asylum Dollz

Asylum Dollz The ‘Asylum Dollz’ are a sister act, in the form of Janelle and Desiree Dollery. Joining forces to create alternative wearable art. Based in Melbourne,

Based in Melbourne, we specialise in original creatures and bespoke costumes and have forged our combined talents to produce quality designs and fabrication. We are conscious of our environmental footprint and in todays’ world of ‘throw away’ fashion re-use, re-cycle and re-purpose where possible. Collectively we have over 20 years of designing, costuming and styling. We have created for events,

magazines, TV and Film. Inspired by the world of dreams, fantasy and legends, our characters have tales to tell. "We dare you to let your dreams run wild with us." We have featured on the front cover of ‘Freque' magazine;, back cover of 'Gilded' magazine, appeared in 'Dark Beauty', 'Gothic' and 'Amazing' ‘DPI Magazine and we have also showcased at RAW. Our pieces have been in 'The Dressmaker' film and The 'Molly' Teleseries. We strive to intrigue and entertain with each character we create, where the person becomes the creature, feeling its story and being caught in the magic. There are no limits to our style or genre; we are free to explore all realms of our imagination and use experimental and mixed media techniques of costuming and fabrication. Doll 1 - Janelle loves Metal, Punk, Goth, Steampunk, Occult, History, Black, Pugs and Unicorns. I've been Cosplaying from the moment I left the womb. I have been awarded 'Best Costume' at many different events over the years. Currently working in one of the longest standing Costume and Props warehouses. Graduated from school with 'Top of the State' marks in Fashion and Fine Art. My inspirations comes from Charles Worth, Thierry Mugler, JP Gaultier, Lizzie Gardiner 70's tastic and quirky. DocMarten's are welded to my feet ! Doll 2 - Desiree (AKA Miss DEE DEE DOLL) LOVES VINTAGE !!! Meaning anything pre-60's, cos she won't admit she's that old. She specialises in the 1940/50's, PinUp styling and holds a Miss PinuP 2013 state title. She was nominated in 2013 for a Lyrebird award for Hairspary the Musical. She is a PINK, Bedazzled, Leopard print, Fluffy, Lollipop, Drag Queen wannabe. Shoes, Shoes, Shoes ! Her design inspirations are Alexander McQueen, William Travilla (Marilyn) Glen Hetrick (Lady GaGa Costumier) and wearable art. We're mad Jim Henson and Tim Burton fans ! Together we pretty much have all the basis covered. We both love designing one-off pieces, closely collaborating with you, our new friend! Whether the theme be dark or light - it always has to be a fun journey.
