The mineral formulas that make up the crystalline glazes took hours and hours of R&D and testing to develop. Interestingly, the results after firing tend to differ slightly between vertical surfaces and horizontal surfaces. Pictured is the wattle crystalline glaze on a vase and a plate 👉🏻

Our Story

R L Foote Design Studio is studio creating unique contemporary ceramic flatware that reimagines how food is served with intriguing, beautiful and fun designs. Accompanying these handcrafted ceramics are a series of stunning interior design objects.

The studio is founded by Melbourne-Hong Kong based artist and designer Ryan L Foote, whose diverse background in art installations and immersive food art events brings a unique source of inspiration and expertise to the studio’s work.

All pieces are handmade in the studio’s workshop in Hawthorn East, Melbourne.

This week I visited a gem of Clifton Hill - Ryan L Foote Design Studio. This unique mid-scale ceramics studio creates beautiful adventurous unique ceramics (and 3D printed chocolates - yep!) for events, restaurants, artists and individuals.

I wish I had taken more photos! It was such a beautiful little factory with custom furniture and equipment designed by Ryan to suit the practice, glaze experiment rooms bursting with colour, a gallery upstairs and private dining experience hidden behind orange velour curtains… porcelain lampshades, crystalline plates that turn upside down and vases modeled on the mountains of Hong Kong. So much thought put into every detail and such exquisite objects. We are lucky to have this kind of creative enterprise in our midst! Check them out at R L Foote Design Studio
