Fiasco Quartet is a Naarm/Melbourne-based string quartet, currently in their second year of studies at the Australian National Academy of Music. In equal measure irreverent and detail-oriented, the quartet brings a distinctly vibes-first approach to chamber music, pairing thoughtful music-making with a healthy sense of whimsy.
As students at ANAM, they are tutored by Howard Penny, Caroline Henbest, Adam Chalabi and Zoë Black, and have also been coached by András Fejér (Takács Quartet), Jonathan Brown (Cuarteto Casals), Michelle Wood (Tinalley String Quartet), Erica Kennedy (Flinders Quartet) and Paavali Jumppanen. Some recent highlights include presenting Kurtág’s Six Moments Musicaux as part of a concert celebrating the composer’s centenary, performing Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet at Elgee Park, and recurrent broadcasts on 3MBS.
Consisting of two New Zealanders and two Australians, the group aims to address the unfortunate shortage of home-grown boy bands either side of the Tasman. On the cards for the coming months are several headline appearances in and around Melbourne, as well as some exciting projects at ANAM.
