A big thanks to Anna Wilson from Mark & Anna Photography for sending through these fantastic photos of my Hitachi train model, with Alison Tedesco’s artwork and diorama all around it. It’s great seeing how the train sits within Alison’s world in Out to Pasture.

The model is part of Alison’s Street Stories exhibition at McClelland, and it’s still available to purchase through the gallery. There are only a few days left to catch the exhibition before it closes on Sunday 25 October, so if you haven’t been yet, now’s the time!

Here are pictures of my train and other artworks from the exibition.

Even with the rain King Con was a very good day. There were lots of families there enjoying everything Kingston Libraries had to offer. We were set up in Artist Alley at Cheltenham Library, next to Chantal McIlraith.

Dean Rankine (known for his work on The Simpsons, Futurama and Rick and Morty) was also there running a fun, hands-on comic-making workshop, sharing his cartooning tips and tricks that my kids enjoyed. Dean Rankine

There was a cosplay parade at the end and a dragon costume won its category. The finishing touches of the cardboard dragon head was done with spray paint, which was great to see.

Thanks to Kingston Libraries for putting on such a great event and to everyone who came by to say hello and check out the street art.

Here are a few highlights from the day and our stall.

Thinking about transforming a school portable?

A mural can completely change how a portable feels, but the best results start before the paint goes on.

A few things worth thinking about first:
• What is the condition of the wall?
Peeling paint, damage or old signage may need attention before artwork begins.

• Who uses the space?
A wellbeing room, classroom, art space or senior area might each need a very different feel.

• Can students be involved?
Workshops on boards or smaller surfaces can help students explore colour, shape and ideas before anything moves onto the wall.

• What should the space feel like?
Calm? Energetic? Welcoming? Creative? The design should support how the space is actually used.

• Does it need to work from a distance?
Portables are often viewed across courtyards and open areas, so strong shapes, colour and composition matter.

This project started smaller, with students building skills and confidence through workshops.

Then the creativity scaled up.

Same ideas. Bigger canvas.

A tired portable can become a space students recognise, connect with and feel proud of.

Got a school portable in mind that could use a fresh start?

Send us a message with a photo of the wall, your school location and a rough idea of the size. We would love to hear what you have in mind and explore what’s possible! 🎨

We had a great time running our Retro Street Art Program for the Draw It Clean winners!

The winners got to try out some street art techniques, experiment with colours and stencils, and create their own artwork to take home. Always good to see what everyone comes up with when they get to make something their own.

The workshop was part of a bigger initiative encouraging young people to appreciate and protect Frankston’s green spaces. 🌿

A big thanks to Charlotte. It was great working with you! Also, the park was a great idea by you!

And Dylan T, thanks for being a legend. You know why!

Thanks for having us involved Peninsula Rotaract. It was fun.

Where does inspiration come from?
It can come from anywhere like this tattoo!

It can be a shape, a pattern, something you see every day, or something you like.

For this wall, the students each picked design elements that stood out to them. This tattoo became the inspiration for the pattern inside the school lettering.

A few highlights from Streets of Colour at McClelland

Over three sessions, kids and families got with colour, shapes, layers and street art inspired activities.

From building colourful 3D sculptures and miniature buildings, to adding layers to a collaborative artwork and creating a colourful streetscape. There was plenty of experimenting and making.

It was great to see everyone creating alongside the work of exhibiting artists Christopher Pyett and Alison Tedesco.
