Radio Laria are proud and excited to be bringing you the feminine force of Tariro Mavondo on Thursday 15th October at Library Portal (opposite no 11 Hawthorn Rd, Northcote/Naarm). Tariro's spoken word performances shake, stir and nourish the soul. Tariro is a Zimbabwean born Frankston raised creative who has been working in the arts sector for over 15 years. She has built a healthy portfolio as a multi award winning actor working on stage and screen, spoken word poet, voice over artist, facilitator and a theatre maker and director.
Tariro has been a featured poet at Bankstown Poetry Slam, Slamalamadingdong, Better Of Said, Melbourne Spoken Word and Poetry Festival, Sonic Poetry Festival, NGV Triennial Afro-Centric Experience, Footscray West Writers Festival, Passionate Tongue, Mother Tongue, Emerging Writers Festival, African Music and Cultural Festival, Thrive Multicultural Women's Festival at Fed Square, Melbourne Poets Union, Xalliope X, Thin Red Lines, Simba Sessions, Malthouse, Jolts Arts at Northcote Social Club and more. She has been published in Xalliope X, Growing Up African in Australia Black Inc Books and Going Down Swinging.
Nominated for an Aria Music Award in 2021 with her collaboration with The Australian Art Orchestra for Best Jazz Album and won an APRA AMCOS award for Work of the Year: Electroacoustic/Sound Art, for Closed Beginnings.
Tariro will release a second album with Peter Knight and Reuben Lewis in 2026/2027.
