I haven't been hanging round Facebook much cos life is better IRL. Here I am sitting down with Green Room, our new band formed with friends, Shane Fens, Mike Freeman and Marion de Nice. We are taking all our favourite songs and giving them our Green Room treatment. With a harmonica instead of your usual lead guitar we sound 'good different'. Our vocalist, Marion, has a virtuosity that will make you pay attention as she gleefully traverses genres. The rhythm section lays down the groove as always.

this earthly body
makes me eat mud pies,
sits me down for
make believe tea parties,
lays me long for
afternoon naps,
and screams blue murder
if I ignore her.
fells me with a flare up
like a tall tree
snapped in a storm.
I come to
on the forest floor.
she offers tea.

What, pray tell, is a creative community of practice?

Purple Circle Community of Practice
WHO AND WHY
The Purple Circle Community of Practice is for creative practitioners of all art forms (visual, word, performance, musical etc) who want to further their creativity in an intentional way.

Members understand creative people need community so we can:
· bounce ideas
· learn new things
· inspire each other
· remind ourselves of why we do what we do
· celebrate and enjoy being curious
· enrich and recharge our creative batteries
· experience new creative forms
· reflect on our practice
· formulate future creative plans

Members have something to gain and something to offer the Community of Practice and come together in a supportive and grounded way. Membership is limited to a regular group of people so there is continuity. Meet up once a month so it is doable.

THE FORMAT (an initial idea to be refined)
Each monthly 2 hour meet-up:
CHECK INS: everyone shares something that is relevant to their creativity since the last meet up. A chance to connect with the challenges and joys of being creative. Before sharing, members specify what they are looking for as a response (encouragement, sympathy, solutions, ideas, celebration or something else).

HOW TO LET’S DO: one person shows the group a bite sized technique of any creative practice and then we do it. The idea is to experience random creative practices as an opportunity to explore something new.

REFLECTION AND NEXT MOVES: members who want to can share what the HOW TO LET’S DO was like for them. Members can also announce what they plan to do creatively in the following month.

WHIMSY: a quick parting share from one member of something utterly random which might spark something.

HOW TO DO FIND OUT MORE?

2. Think of any creative friends who would be great to have in the Purple Circle and invite them by sharing this email.
3. I will announce an online preview meeting where you can get a feel for what it’s about before you opt in.
4. Attend the online preview meeting.
5. Once we have things sorted out we will have our first real life meeting . Cost will include coffee/tea and cake at a café with a meeting table.

Hello creatives in my neck of the woods, Brisbane, Australia. Let me know if you are here.

I would love to set up a non profit community of practice for face to face meetups in
Brisbane, Australia.

The Purple Circle Community of Practice is for creative artists (visual, writers, musos etc). The idea is to get together to share our creative practice, the everyday challenges and joys of being an artist.

I'm not selling anything or running a cult just so you know. I'm not making money from this. The cost to be involved will be minimal.
