Mīharo rawa!! ❤️✨️

The one day we look forward to every fortnight! 🫶🏽

There’s nothing quite like coming together with whānau, catching up, watching our tamariki immerse themselves in Kapa Haka, and hearing our whānau singing and haka together ❤️‍🔥

Ngā mihi nui, whānau! 🫶🏽✨️ Awesome to see everyone last night and feel the warmth and energy of our kapa coming together. We appreciate every single one of you who make the effort to come to practice - parents, Nannys, Aunties and our tamariki ❤️

A big shout out to our Kōmiti, Kaiako and Ringawera, who are always working behind the scenes and making sure our practices run smoothly. We appreciate you all more than you know 💕

Until next practice ❤️🤍🖤

✨️🩵 A reintro post for many of our new whānau...

Ko Te Kupenga ki Te Uru mātou 🫶🏽

As we grow, we continue to gain more and more whānau here in Australia and Aotearoa ☺️

Te Kupenga ki Te Uru essentially translates to "The Net Cast to the West"

Our name reflects the vision of gathering and nurturing of our people/whānau who have chosen to live, grow, and thrive here in Te Urupū (Perth, Western Australia)

Like a net that brings people together, our rōpū creates opportunities for whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, belonging, learning, connection and just being proud to be MĀORI ❤️🤍🖤

We are a whakangahau Kapa Haka rōpū based on Binjareb Boodja (Mandurah, WA) and we are proud to acknowledge and respect the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather.

Our practices are held fortnightly on a Friday during the school terms, providing a space for whānau of all ages and abilities to come together to connect through waiata and haka.

Our kaupapa is guided by the values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and mana 💪🏽❤️

Te Kupenga ki Te Uru is a safe, non-intimidating and welcoming space where our whānau can meet, learn, grow, strengthen their Māori identity, and honour the legacy of our tūpuna through Kapa Haka 🫶🏽
Ngā mihi nui 🩵

🎵 TAMARIKI WAIATA RECAP 🎵

Here is a simple waiata that helps our tamariki learn about their body parts - from head to toe!

There are variations of kupu depending on your hapu/iwi and/or dialect 😊

Mahunga - Head
Pakahiwi - Shoulders
Puku - Stomach
Hope - Hips
Waewae - Legs

Taringa - Ears
Kanohi - Eyes
Ihu - Nose
Waha - Mouth

Easy one to practice at home too!

Oh, what a night! 😍🩵

Piiiiiiiki mihi to all our whānau who attended last night! Thank you to those who continue to return each practice, and a big nau mai, haere mai to our new whānau 🫶🏽

What an awesome turnout for our Tamariki Session! It was so cool to see our tamariki enjoying themselves, getting involved and really getting into it 😍

We also absolutely love seeing our mātua and pakeke get up and join in during our whānau jams! Having all our whānau involved in our whare helps keep our whare warm 🩵

Our practices are about creating a space for our whānau — especially our pēpi and tamariki — to have somewhere to go, somewhere they belong, a place where they can be themselves, have fun, connect, learn and simply be Māori 🥹🩵

Thank you Whaea Justine for jumping on the guitar and all your awhi 💕 We appreciate you 🫶🏽

A huge mihi and thank you to our Kōmiti, Kaiako and Ringawera, who do so much mahi behind the scenes to keep our kapa running smoothly. We appreciate you all! 🫶🏽

Until our next practice 🩵
