STUDENT SPOTLIGHT (albeit very late!): Reuben
Due to work commitments, I’m not teaching this year, but I just wanted to highlight Reuben, a very talented young man who I taught last year.
Reuben came to lessons not only wanting to develop his voice, but wanting to build his confidence and, more importantly, wanting to be allowed to sing the style/s of music that he enjoys singing. We hit it off straight away as we both love country music and I totally understood how he felt having been told to sing other styles for so long!
Reuben has a fantastic country voice and has a real affinity for the music of Johnny Cash, The Highwaymen, and many other greats from the golden ages. It was such a joy getting to work with him on songs from this era, songs that I grew up with and love as well. I am super proud of all the work he put in during his time with me and all the progress & achievements he made, including (but not limited to) successfully auditioning for his schools vocal program!
We originally worked on the song in this video, ‘Man in Black’ by Johnny Cash, for his school’s music showcase night. However, he did such a fantastic job that he was asked to perform it for the schools graduation assembly as well!! This video was taken at that performance. Thanks so much Carlee for sending it through and so sorry it took so long to post!!
