Did you know Upstage goes on the road? 🚗🎭

Last week Kristian and I packed up and headed out to spend the day creating, playing and making theatre with primary school students.

Taking drama into schools is one of the lovely parts of what we do. It gives students the chance to step outside the everyday classroom, use their imaginations, work together and discover what they’re capable of.

And we’d love to visit more schools across Maitland and the Hunter.

We can create drama workshops, incursions and creative projects to suit your students and your school.

Just another perfectly normal Sunday at Upstage… 😂

While one group rehearses inside, the muscles of the team are attempting the small feat of manoeuvring a VERY large kitchen table up the stairs and into the studio.

Because there are always at least two things happening at once around here.

And yes, that table has a starring role to play in Fantastic Mr Fox. 🦊

Fantastic Mr Fox tickets are officially ON SALE! 🦊

On Sunday we gave you a little peek inside the rehearsal room.

Now it’s time to invite you to the show.

Our young cast have been busy creating, experimenting, collaborating and finding all the wonderfully ridiculous characters in Roald Dahl’s much-loved story.

There have already been some spectacularly unsuccessful attempts by Boggis, Bunce and Bean to deal with Mr Fox. 😂

Now all we need is an audience.

Sunday afternoon at Upstage... 🦊

Today our Fantastic Mr Fox cast has been busy creating, collaborating and making some wonderfully ridiculous choices.

Boggis, Bunce and Bean have been attempting to deal with a particularly troublesome fox (with varying degrees of success 😂), while the rest of the cast have been working together to start bringing this wonderfully wild story to life.

This is one of our favourite parts of making theatre with young people. Before the costumes, lights and audience arrive, there’s this.

Trying things. Getting things wrong. Making each other laugh. Listening to someone else’s idea. Being brave enough to offer your own.

And slowly, somehow, a show begins to appear.

Fantastic Mr Fox is coming.

And we have a feeling you’re going to like this one. 🦊

Once an Upstage student, now an Upstage teacher, Kristian is proof that what happens in our studio doesn’t stop when you “graduate.” He’s out here high fiving the next generation of confident, happy little performers, and honestly, it’s the best kind of full circle. Hi five to the students, but also (and especially) to our teachers, who pour so much into these kids every week. This is why we do what we do.

Meanwhile, this week at Upstage... our Actor's Ensemble tackled satire with a scene full of idiotic cops playing up every trope in the book (comedy gold), our youngest Musical Theatre stars were hard at work perfecting their pliés, and somewhere in between, the very first Fantastic Mr Fox rehearsal kicked off 🦊 Just an average week in the studio, really.
