Last week I worked on the sticker designs for our very first Creative Conservation Club mail-out. Some will have a transparent background, while others will have a classic white border, giving members a fun mix to use in journals, sketchbooks, water bottles or happy mail.

I love seeing the artwork take on a new life in different formats. The Creative Conservation Club is officially open for subscriptions.

Each month we’ll explore a different threatened Australian species through art, storytelling, conservation education and creativity. Our very first featured species is the incredible Orange-bellied Parrot — one of Australia’s rarest birds and a powerful reminder that conservation can make a difference.

It’s finally here… the very first Creative Conservation Club prototype. 🧡🦜

For months this idea has lived in my sketchbooks, notebooks and early morning planning sessions. Seeing the first pieces come together and holding them in my hands makes it all feel real.

Our founding species, the Orange-bellied Parrot, has such an incredible conservation story to tell, and this is just the beginning. Every print, activity, sticker and resource has been created with the hope of helping more people connect with Australia’s threatened wildlife.

There are still a few tweaks to make, but I’m so excited to share this first look with you.

From sketch to something more 🧡🦜

Sometimes a little sketch becomes the beginning of something completely unexpected.

I originally drew this little orange-bellied parrot as part of my artwork for the Creative Conservation Club… and then Mum decided she wanted to bring the same bird to life in a completely different way.

She’s taken my watercolour sketch and is using it as the inspiration for her Kinusaiga piece for our September workshop. 🧵🦜

Watching the sketch transform from pencil and paper into fabric has been so special.

It’s also a lovely reminder that creativity doesn’t have to stay inside one medium. A drawing can become a painting, a painting can inspire fabric art, and one little idea can grow into something neither of us expected.

And I think that’s exactly what we’re hoping to do with the Creative Conservation Club — take these beautiful Australian animals and find creative ways to share their stories, spark conversations and help people care about their future. 🌿

I’m already a little bit obsessed with how this one is coming together. 😍

Two artists, one little parrot 🦜🧡

A watercolour painting and a piece of Kinusaiga might look completely different…

…but they started with the same little orange-bellied parrot. 🧡

I’ve been spending my days painting this beautiful little bird in watercolour as the first feature animal for our Creative Conservation Club.

And Mum has been working alongside me, turning one of my sketches into her own interpretation using fabric and the Kinusaiga technique.

I can’t wait to see them side by side.

Same bird.
Same story.
Two completely different ways of creating. 🎨🧵

Behind the scenes, this is what our business often looks like — bouncing ideas off each other, sharing sketches, trying new things and occasionally getting completely distracted by a new creative project! 😂

But there’s something really special about creating alongside someone who has supported you from the very beginning.

And this little orange-bellied parrot has already brought us a new painting, a new project, a September workshop and so many conversations about conservation.

I think this little bird is going to have quite a story to tell. 🦜🌿

The magic behind the scenes 🧡🦜

One of the things I’m most grateful for in this little creative adventure is that I don’t do it alone.

My amazing mum is not only my biggest supporter — she’s also my business partner, and I honestly don’t know where I’d be without her. ❤️

While I’ve been busy painting our first Creative Conservation Club animal, the beautiful and critically endangered orange-bellied parrot, Mum has been quietly working away in the background on something very special of her own.

We’re preparing for our first craft workshop in September, where we’ll be exploring the beautiful Japanese-inspired art of Kinusaiga.

And because we can’t seem to stop thinking about our little orange-bellied parrots… Mum took one of my sketches and has started creating her very own Kinusaiga orange-bellied parrot. 🦜🧵

So while I’m painting feathers with watercolour, Mum is creating them with fabric — two very different mediums, but both telling the same story.

I absolutely love that our work seems to intertwine like this. One little idea sparks another, and before we know it, we’re creating something together.

And perhaps that’s one of my favourite parts of being creative — the things we make become more than just art. They become stories, conversations and little reminders of the things worth protecting. 🌿

I can’t wait to show you Mum’s finished parrot… but for now, here’s a little peek behind the scenes. 🧡

Every species has a story—and every artist tells it a little differently.

One of the things I’m most excited about for The Creative Conservation Club is the Creator Membership.

As much as I love painting Australia’s threatened species, I also love helping others connect with them through creativity.

Each month, Creator Members will receive an exclusive line drawing inspired by the featured species, along with a colour palette guide to help bring it to life in their own unique way.

I’ve been busy working on the first prototype colour swatch card for our September species, the critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrot.

For most of my artistic journey, I’ve painted almost exclusively with Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolours. They’re the paints I learned with, the paints I’ve created countless artworks with, and the paints I know many artists already have at home.

More recently, I’ve started exploring Daniel Smith and Schmincke watercolours, discovering new colours, pigments, and possibilities along the way. I certainly don’t own every colour in those ranges yet, but I wanted to include suggestions across all three brands so members can work with the paints they already have available.

My hope is that these guides make it easy for artists of all experience levels to join in, learn about Australia’s threatened species, and create something meaningful.

I love the idea that one little bird can inspire dozens of different paintings, interpretations, and creative journeys.

Because conservation starts with connection.

And sometimes connection begins with a paintbrush.

One of my favourite parts of the creative process is watching a species slowly come to life on paper.

Every brushstroke is an opportunity to tell a story and help create a connection with a species that many people have never heard of before.

This painting will become the very first artwork featured in Letters from the Wild.

As I paint, I’m thinking about the incredible journey of the Orange-bellied Parrot, the challenges it faces, and the people working tirelessly to protect it.

If even one person learns about this remarkable bird because of this painting, then every brushstroke is worth it.
