Work in progress 🚧🎨

Yesterday a Dragonfly appeared at the preschool to announce the change of season.

A blue~tongued lizard walked by the mural 🦎

The Maggie pops in often.

….and the spider? He has been hanging out in the banana trees the whole time 🕷️

Responding to the children’s garden. ♥️

A little more of the ‘children’s garden’ merged with the mural today. 🌱

SPRING 🌼 was in the preschool garden today - a beautiful dragon fly, a blue-tongue lizard wandered by my feet and the lorikeets sat in the calistemin above me all day as I painted their mate below. 🎨

WORK IN PROGRESS… 🎨

I was recently asked how I combine murals & gardening?

My answer was? Very easily.

They are always intertwined.

I planted this fenceline with Richmond Birdwing vines 🦋 in 2023 and it is such a pleasure to now grow them into the adjacent mural.

This vine is the plant that the endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly lays her eggs on. 🥚 The caterpillars can ‘only’ eat this leaf, so its important that we plant corridors of this vine to support this majestic local species. 🐛 🦋

Often I paint, then plant, but I am loving having the plants established first…Monet often combined his passions of both painting & gardening as the twin focus of his art.

These growing vines in the afternoon really were a living masterpiece this afternoon.🌱

Today a preschool boy told me that the flowers were very beautiful. ♥️

‘FLY’ LIKE A BUTTERFLY DOLLY💓

Today was ‘the day’ to include this butterfly on the Preschool mural.

I sometimes like to embed little quiet ‘time markers’ into a mural from events happening around the work and that day.

Almost, every one of my murals has been uplifted or embedded with an hour of two of Dolly Parton on my playlist at the right moment, for the right reasons. 🎶

This morning a few of Dolly’s songs were included in the preschool’s play list on the day we learned that this heart of kindness departed our earth.

Today in response, I chose the ‘female’ Richmond Birdwing butterfly - a rare, treasured and graceful species.

I chose to place the butterfly in the sky next to the already painted heart cloud, because ‘Love is Like a Butterfly’.

Dolly’s love was dedicated to supporting children the world over.

She valued how important the gift of reading is and her Dolly Parton Imagine Library gifted books to children across the world including Australia.

Her song ‘Coat of Many Colours’ speaks so strongly from her childhood voice and how the power of her mother’s love and feeling loved empowered her to feel strong in the school playground when she was teased for being different.

She pursued and honoured her life’s purpose that was planted and evident in her early childhood.

I hope the butterfly on this mural continues to look down on the children, with Dolly’s love, during their days in this garden.

These are the days when their own intrinsic motivations are enriched and will shape their curiosity for their own life passions.

That they will all hold a special Dolly song in their hearts at some time in their life.

RIP Dolly Parton - a true human treasure of all time 🦋
