The Revegetation site Kara Ngala near Little Dip CP was supported by Southern Ground for locally grown and sourced trees, shrubs and understorey species.
This work is supported by a DEW (Native Vegetation Council) Restoration Grant to protect and increase Biodiversity – Kara Ngala will be protected in perpetuity as a Heritage Agreement.
Many thanks to Burrandies Aboriginal Corp. (Uncle Doug and the Latara Wirkeri Crew) The Landscape Board (David New) and especially the wonderful students representing LCYEC & CCLC with the Environmental Education Team leaders Damien & Mel and Heritage Agreement Officer, Tania Rajic. The welcomed help from Carly (Tafe CEM Student), LKDI Gardening Crew (Thanks Karl,Nick,Tyler) and last but not least Number one helper was Grandson, Winston!

Planting to Heal Country bringing Biodiversity species to the land. 'Kara Ngala' We are proud to be apart of restoring balance, protecting and supporting local wildlife through growing species that form interconnective habitat for native plants and animals. Benefiting natural systems for improved soil health, moisture retention and good air quality. Caring for Country!

Correa reflexa or Bush Fuchsia is a small shrub with super sweet tubular bell flowers from Autumn through Winter attracting nectar feeding birds particularly Eastern Spinebills and New Holland Honey eaters. The long tongue pollinators also rely on Correas for nectar in the cooler months like Blue banded bees, hover flies and butterflies.
A Hardy Drought tolerant species growing well in well drained soils with full sun to semi shade. Naturally growing in stringybark forests to coastal heathlands in the Limestone Coast.
A First Nations medicine plant, the bark and leaves were used for treating coughs and colds. The flowers sweet nectar used as sustenance.

Growing from local seed protects the genetic integrity of native flora, preventing genetic pollution that can occur when non-local species are introduced.
Indigenous plants with local provenance are genetically adapted to the specific conditions of the Limestone Coast. This ensures high resilience to local conditions, soils and seasonal temperature extremes.
