I’ve had a bit of fun making these over the last few weeks.
Or finally the bush hatchet was just for fun, I’d never made anything similar and thought I’d have a go. I’m really happy with how it feels.

The timber is some western myall I had tucked away for a rainy day from William Vlotman

The steel in the two knives are nitro V, the hatchet is 1084.

I decided to have a crack at pen turning. Not knife related, but a great use of smaller pieces not large enough for scales.
I have some timber smaller offcuts that I can’t use for handles, decided to try my hand at wood turning.
This is an offcut, but it turned out well enough I’m going to use it as my own.
Finished to 1200grit, followed by stage 1 and 2 Kustom Grit and a thin coat of osmopolyx.
Not sure where this timber came from, could be William Vlotman or Djarilmari Timbers .

I had some help from our youngest. I have wanted to make a knife balm/leather balm myself. She loves make candles with .be and very good at the process. She took on the knife balm process with my handwritten note. She decided I needed a proper ‘recipe’ that she created and emailed to me. It will be printed and pride of place in the shed.
I love seeing the kids make things.
Balm is Australian natural beeswax, Carnauba wax and food safe mineral oil. It has a fresh citrus fragrance. It will be good to try it out!

I love seeing the progression in the timber scales. I love buying blocks (this one from William Vlotman) then choosing a piece that suits.
This is a field knife in Nitro V.
Handle is ringed western myall. Black G10 pins and finished with OsmoPolyx hardwax oil.
It still needs a final polish, but I’m happy with the progress so far.
