If you are Vaxxed, masked, healthys and practice social distancing, you can make an appointment to purchase a bonsai by calling 9819088 or 0405759030. Stay Safe.

When I was a kid, I heard about this fella who bought a trident maple back from Japan in the 1930's. His wife was displeased. She thought it was cruel and instructed him to plant the gnarled little dwarf tree in the garden. Being a devoted husband he adhered to her instruction and did as he was told. The miniature grew big. Around 50 years later I was invited to stop by and see the tree. The owner and I agreed that I should collect some seed and propagate from the old tree. I had about a thousand trident's in my trunk fattening training field at the time and years passed by before I went back in the autumn to collect the seed. Alas, the 5 acre property had been subdivided and
the maple appeared gone. Opportunity lost thought me. I did a bit of detective work recently and the old tree and old house remain albeit at a different address. The owners appreciate the significance and a bunch of baby bonsai beckon.

The garden's looking lovely this evening but with hot 38 and sunny, the coming days are going to be challenging. I've elected not to provide shade but to work towards maintaining hydration. We will see some foliar burn but those leaves can be removed after the heat event then a flush of pristine new foliage is short work. Better than shade cloth and a flush of mildew. Sorry for the dogs and tram photo bombing. See you when this omicron splits.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Christmas 2021 our busiest ever. The garden is looking wonderful and complete despite so many trees finding new homes.

For Melbourne's oldest bonsai garden autumn is a time of poetic beauty. We wish we could share it with visitors but in these times, health and wellbeing are of primary concern. With horticulture care, creativity and a pinch of alchemy we continue our passion behind closed doors. Currently we're re-organising our layout to better enable social distancing when the garden re-opens. Remember, winter is just a prelude to spring. We look forward to seeing you then. Be safe.
