Glen Clyde House

Glen Clyde House is home to the Kingdom Gallery and Café, situated on the outskirts of Hamilton, Tasmania. Situated on the outskirts of Hamilton, a quiet picturesque village and gateway to the central highlands just one hour from Hobart on the way to the west coast.

Glen Clyde House is a heritage listed building constructed in 1840. Originally a private residence and then coaching inn many of the original features can still be seen in both the gallery and café. With ample parking it's the ideal place to break your journey on the way to or from Strahan. Alternatively include us as part of a relaxing day trip from Hobart taking in Bothwell, Hamilton, Meadowbank Lake, Mt Field and New Norfolk.

Staff at Glen Clyde House would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Targa community for the tragic loss of life yesterday. On Tuesday morning we were privileged to host morning tea for the Ultimate Driving Tour group which included Targa competitors.

To all our valued customers we advise that the cafe will be closed for 4 days from Friday 15 April [Good Friday] to Monday 18 April. We will re-open at 10am on Tuesday 19 April. The Gallery can be opened on Monday 18 April between 10am and 4pm by request. Just phone on your arrival and we will be happy to open up.

With work from more than 30 Tasmanian artisqans including the owner in residence there is plenty from which to choose that special memento or gift. Items include the practical, unusual and quirky, some of which are unique to Glen Clyde House.

Glen Clyde House is one of Tasmania's original Coaching Inns.

Convict built circa 1840 as a private residence for James Jackson. It was licensed in 1845 as the 'Tasmanian Lass' and later traded as the 'Glen Clyde Hotel' until the 1930's.

Its use since has been varied: Maternity Home, Dental Clinic and from the 1940's to 1970's a Motor Garage!

Today it is the proud home of The Kingdom Gallery and Cafe.

Before or after browsing through the gallery stop; for a relaxing cuppa or light meal in the adjoining café.

Dine in the heritage rooms by a warm fire in the cooler weather or on sunny days enjoy the outdoor deck overlooking the garden.

Enjoy snacks, light meals, espresso coffees, Devonshire teas. The menu features weekly specials as well as standard favourites including our delicious Woodcutters Pie!

With seating for 50 we can comfortably cater for tour groups but for large groups please book ahead to avoid disappointment.
