It’s been a little while since we properly introduced ourselves on here, so hello from us 👋
Over the past two months we’ve welcomed around 1000 new followers, so we thought this might be a good time to reintroduce ourselves.
We’re Johanna and Greg, and together we established and run the Greenhills Art Centre, a historic building in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia that has slowly become a place for art, creativity, conversation, inspiration and rest.
Over the past 18 months we’ve poured countless hours into restoring and reimagining the space, preserving its character while creating somewhere artists and guests can feel inspired, comfortable and at home.
What began as a simple idea has gradually grown into workshops, artist residencies, group retreats, shared meals, long studio days, and friendships formed over cups of tea and creative projects.
There’s something special about Greenhills.
The quiet.
The huge skies.
The old walls filled with history.
The morning light coming through the studio windows.
The sound of people gathering around the table after a day of creating.
We love seeing artists arrive slightly uncertain and leave refreshed, encouraged and creatively energised.
Our days are often spent setting up the studio, preparing rooms, making meals, hanging paintings, mowing lawns, lighting fires, welcoming guests, and trying to keep up with the endless jobs that come with caring for an old building, but it’s deeply rewarding work.
One of the greatest joys has been watching people from all over Australia, and overseas, connect through art here in this small country town.
Greenhills continues to evolve, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has attended a workshop, stayed with us, shared a kind word, or supported what we’re building.
There’s a quiet magic here too ✨
