Throwback Thursday:
Twenty-four years ago, I held my first solo show. It was called Brave New World. It’s funny to think back on it now.
At the ripe old age of 24, I’d gone from being a kid drawing in my living room to exhibiting in a fine art gallery. I remember walking into the gallery one day, looking around, and seeing my work hanging between Albert Namatjira and John Olsen. I can still remember thinking, wow, that’s really cool.
I also remember how I felt after painting this image. He is a very special part of me.
With age, I’ve learned to appreciate things a lot more – the little moments, the milestones, and the experiences that shape us.
I had a similar feeling recently while reading the landmark essay Radiance After Exile: Visionism and the Art of M. about my theory of Visionism. It reminded me how important it is to pause and reflect on the journey, and how far we’ve come.

Cadillac of the Sky by M.

“He dreamt a dream, face pointed to the sun, wind at his back, wings open wide – the man, his dreams, and the fear of flight.”

This painting is a mix of a lot of stories. It means a lot of different things all at the same time. I think it’s interesting for you to find your own meaning in it.

Drop a comment and let me know what you think it means.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been featured on FineArtsNews.com.

This opportunity came about with the support of Culturale Lab (Culturale Lab), who quietly champion contemporary artists worldwide. 🤍

My story has been published on FineArtsNews.com, a respected international publication covering fine arts, museum exhibitions, and the global art scene. It’s an incredible honour to have my work and artistic journey shared with collectors, gallery professionals, curators, and a global audience of fine art enthusiasts.

He walked away at the height of it. Twenty years later, he's back.
In the early 2000s, Gold Coast artist M was gaining serious traction — exhibitions in New York, solo shows locally, work collected across Australia, Europe and North America. Then, without explanation, he stepped away.
Now, Art of M marks a return shaped by time, restraint and a clearer understanding of why he makes art in the first place.
Working across acrylic, oil pastel and pastel on canvas and paper, his practice draws on mythology, technology and the quiet tension between the two. localemagazine The result is work that feels human, bold and completely his own. .studio
