Throwback Thursday:
Twenty-four years ago, I held my first solo show. It was called Brave New World. It’s funny to think back on it now.
At the ripe old age of 24, I’d gone from being a kid drawing in my living room to exhibiting in a fine art gallery. I remember walking into the gallery one day, looking around, and seeing my work hanging between Albert Namatjira and John Olsen. I can still remember thinking, wow, that’s really cool.
I also remember how I felt after painting this image. He is a very special part of me.
With age, I’ve learned to appreciate things a lot more – the little moments, the milestones, and the experiences that shape us.
I had a similar feeling recently while reading the landmark essay Radiance After Exile: Visionism and the Art of M. about my theory of Visionism. It reminded me how important it is to pause and reflect on the journey, and how far we’ve come.
