Shout out to one of our major partners Rise Network

Rise Network's Director Shaun Mays said the decision to jump onboard as a partner was an easy one.

“At Rise we believe in the importance of providing opportunities for people of all abilities to both create and celebrate their creations with the world! We are therefore pleased to support the As We Are Awards as it is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the many talented artists across our state,” said Shaun.

This is Farrah 👋 Farrah has been attending Rise Network's Arts Hub for over 9 years. She loves doing craft and is a master at long stitch. Since coming to the Arts Hub she has developed many new craft skills including learning to use the sewing machine and overlocker to sew many garments.

This photo captures Farrah's excitement on opening night at last year's event after finding out her embroidery piece had sold. This year she is submitting another framed textile artwork, A Farm House with Cows. We can't wait to see your new piece, Farrah!

We would like to present Uniting WA as a sponsor of this year’s Awards. Uniting is proud to support this event as it's a great opportunity for people with intellectual disability to showcase their artistic talents and contribute to the wider community of artists in WA.

This is a photo from last year's event. We can't wait to see what all of the talented entrants create this year.

Congratulations Mandy, we are so excited about your incredible achievement.

Congratulations to Mandy White, winner of the 2021 Invitation Art Prize (IAP) – the City’s most prestigious visual arts competition. Ms White received $25,000 in prize money for her entry, titled “Creatures of the Crystal Caves”.
Of Yamatji heritage, Ms White grew up in Guildford, WA, and began her art practice when she started classes at DADAA. Over the subsequent decade, she has become a passionate, award-winning artist and a strong role model for artists with disability.
In her IAP-winning artwork, “the crystal caves are a magical place in the landscape where creatures play. The ghosts fly around as the animals play amongst the crystals. The animals are cheeky, with special powers that allow them to fly with the ghosts to scare people”.
Judges remarked that “the paintings are open and optimistic. A whimsical sense of play draws one into an intrigue where creatures reveal connections of peoples across time. Innovative use of colour sees the motifs floating in a world that speaks of moments of becoming”.
The IAP runs until Sunday October 24 at Westfield Whitford City.
