This Saturday, WFAC comes alive with food, fire, art and music for Feast & Fire. At the heart of the night, watch Stewart Scambler’s Dragon Kiln come to life and experience one of the world’s oldest ceramic firing traditions in action. Secure your spot at Feast & Fire via the 10 Nights in Port website.

As the fire builds and the kiln reaches temperatures of up to 1,300°C, flames may burst from the dragon’s eyes and nose. Inside, tea bowls and dragon sculptures created by WFAC students will be transformed into finished stoneware.

Built by local volunteers under the guidance of ceramicists Stewart Scambler and Mel Ellero, using bricks donated by Midland Brick, the kiln draws on a design used for more than 2,000 years.

Its long chamber and wood-fired flame create unique effects through ash, heat and atmosphere, ensuring every piece emerges with its own distinctive character.

This beautiful footage & interview with Stewart was captured by Matthew Bettinaglio

Tomorrow night from 6pm, join us for a special screening of AN/OTHER Film Festival 2026.
These films reflect on the people and places we retreat to when we feel misunderstood – or when well-meaning people have good intentions, but just don’t quite get it. Discover diverse stories and perspectives from filmmakers locally and across Australia.
This scene is from La Echolalia, directed by Matteo Mazzella – an experimental exploration of the wonderfully rhythmic and haunting world of echolalia, an echo-speech phenomenon associated with neurological conditions and commonly experienced by autistic people.

This harrowing universal experience and more will be on show at Out Loud and On Screen: AN/OTHER.

On 25 August, enjoy films created by and about people with disability from Fremantle and across Australia. The program celebrates the people and places that offer refuge, understanding and strength, while inviting audiences to see the world through fresh perspectives.

This clip is from HINDSIGHT, directed by Mikey Hamer and written by Caleb Lyons. A socially anxious teen faces his ultimate boss battle – buying a video game – while his overactive imagination turns a simple conversation into an epic disaster, proving that the real enemy is just awkward small talk.
