Fat Fruit is a Melbourne based Independent arts company creating q***r and body positive performances. Our shows are created collaboratively with q***rs, feminists and culturally diverse artists from varied artforms and perspectives. We create both large scale and intimate works that cross form and style. Fat Fruit aim to integrate relaxed performance models into all our work and focus on making o

ur shows accessible for Deaf and Hard Of Hearing audiences where possible. Calling On Rock (Formerly The Legend Of Queen Kong) – a q***r, rock show for Deaf, Hard Of Hearing and hearing audiences alike, The Rainbow Tree – musical storytelling, written in collaboration with 7 children from Rainbow Families, Fu*k Fabulous – a q***r, punk variety show and Fart Fabulous – an unapologetically q***r variety show for all ages. Created by partners in art and life Sarah Ward and Bec Matthews, Fat Fruit shows celebrate gender diversity, encourage free thinking and nourish community. We aim to disrupt accepted norms and invite our audience into q***r new worlds.

We are nearly half way in raising funds so that we can continue our work making The Legend Of Queen Kong visual album and implement elements to make it accessible to d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences. If you can help us any donation is most gratefully received. Here is Kirri Dangerfield bringing big interpreter energy at the live show, she will feature as interpreter in the film and the money raised will help us make this element specifically. Hey friends, in 2018 we brought to the stage a show called The Legend Of Queen Kong, it was commissioned by Adelaide Cabaret Festival. With accessibility funding from Arts Centre Melbourne we were able to turn this show into a d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing accessible work. Now we have put the live show to bed, we have recorded the album and are turning it into a d/Deaf accessible album. We are calling out to any individual, company or org who may be able to help us make this album and continue our journey of investigating ways to make music accessible to as many d/Deaf and HoH people as possible. You can donate through the Australian Cultural Fund which is tax deductible and 100% of the donations go toward the project. Thank you to Ebony Bott, Daniel Clarke, Renee Dudfield, Susie Dee, Gen Bernstein, Cerise Howard, Jo Franklin, Myles Mumford, Casey Rice, Paul Lim and everyone who has come on this journey with us to this point. We're really excited about this project. Link in comments below to donate.

I just submitted my acquittal to Creative Australia for the Fellowship Funding I received over 22/23. The funding gave me time to research and implement relaxed performance practises and how to make spaces more accessible. Also to further research ways to make music further accessible to d/Deaf and Hard Of Hearing audiences. Thank you to Asphyxia and Kirri Dangerfield. Over these two years, myself and my partner in art and life Bec Matthews of Fat Fruit created 5 new works, some were duo, ensemble and some with communities like Flying Fruit Fly Circus. We have two new works in the pipeline including F**k Christmas, which we're all hoping you can come to Malthouse Theatre. And we toured existing work The Rainbow Tree (thank you Performing Lines) and The Legend Of Queen Kong. We even recorded The Legend Of Queen Kong for release in 2026 alongside a Feature Film/Visual Album, accessible to d/Deaf and HOH audiences (thank you to the Homos (Cerise Howard, Gen Bernstein and Jo Franklin). A HUGE thank you to the Creative Australia panel, this Fellowship was a life line for me and grants like this shift culture and help artists create sustainable practises and actually survive. I have no interest in the mainstream, my passion is on the edges, creating work that disrupts, dismantles and celebrates voices of the LGBTIQ+ community. What I'm saying is that I love being an Indie artist and I love being afforded the opportunity to take risks with art, to be allowed failures along the way and sometimes to create something truly wonderful and transcendent. This Fellowship helped make that happen. Thank you to the Australian tax paying public, that's you! I had two financially stress free years of making, researching and realising...If you are interested at all in any of my perspectives, finding or provocations on inclusive art making and and presenting, PM me. One final big thank you to Bec Matthews for being alongside me the whole way!
