So excited to find out that my coloured pencil Gladioli drawing (Gladiolus x hortulanus) has been selected for TABI, The Art of Botanical Illustration, in September/October this year! It will be on display in the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. 🌿

Crazy to think this time a year ago I hadn’t even heard of botanical art! I’d never have thought I’d one day have artwork displayed in a gallery! 🖼️

Hope my Melbourne friends can go and see it on my behalf!❤️🌺

My first acrylic painting!🌸 This was so much fun to paint, especially being able to paint outside in the garden!

I based this of a flower I took a photo of in Sydney Botanic Gardens earlier this year - but I’m actually not sure what the flower is called! Please comment below if you recognise it! ❓

The joy of acrylic painting is it’s already dry and straight up on the wall!🖼️

Let me know what you think and if I should make these big dramatic flowers with black backgrounds a series!

Super excited to announce I’ll have a stall at the Wi******er Cathedral Flower Festival in September! 🌸

I’ll be selling botanic prints, gifts and maybe originals! I’ve specially painted a ‘Wi******er Cathedral’ rose for the festival. This is a rose variety bred by David Austin named after Wi******er Cathedral. It’s intended as a white rose, however it often surprises with subtle shades of pink, and sometimes comes out with the odd very vibrant pink petal! (If you look closely at the pinkier rose I painted there’s a tiny part of a single petal that came out in this vibrant pink!). They have about 60-85 petals (so was a lot to paint!!)

The festival runs from 15th-19th September and my stand will be at the Home & Garden stall section! 🌹

Calla Lilies, Watercolour

I bought these gorgeous lilies from while I was in Belgium and worked on it over there the past couple of weeks! I love their luscious shapes and rich colours. My most complex composition to date so was fun working out where to place all the lilies in the piece to make them pop!🤩

‘Autumn leaf’, Watercolour 🍁

I started this one a month ago when I was in Australia and it was Autumn! So quite bizarre to finish it in spring/summer back in the UK! I picked this leaf up off the ground at Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne where there was a gorgeous wall covered with red autumn leaves. Particularly striking was how some of the leaves had bright almost luminescent green veins! The beautiful green and red contrast meant I couldn’t resist painting it. ❤️💚

“Dear trees, what magic you must hold
To change the leaves from green to gold
And weave a flaxen cloth so fine
To dress the wood in autumn time.”
- Dear Trees, Laura Jaworski

‘Cosmos Apricotta’ in coloured pencil

Drawn from a Cosmos plant I bought at a market stall in Hay-on-wye! This cosmos variety has gorgeous peachy, orange, yellow and purple hues, it’s hard to tell what colour it is!

This one took about 20 hours to build up all the layers ✍️ included some work in progress pics!

“A dance in summer’s light,
The Cosmos blooms, a radiant sight,
With petals like a galaxy’s swirl,
Each delicate ray, a cosmic pearl.
On slender stems reach so high,
A tapestry against the azure sky,
In shades of pink and golden hues,
A vibrant palette array, nature imbues.”
- The Cosmos, Carol Montoya
