The Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar is an annual event held in the Wimmera region of Victoria showcasing expert and local knowledge of biodiversity locally and beyond. The Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar is an annual event held on the first Thursday in September each year, in the Wimmera region (Victoria) showcasing national experts and local knowledge of biodiversity. The seminar is a full day event of

speakers covering a diverse range of topics within the theme of the year, including a field trip to a nearby location. Previous speakers include researchers at universities, environmental management agencies, environmental professionals and community led groups. The Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge of environmental process in our region, and beyond. There will be plenty of opportunities for networking over morning and afternoon tea, lunch, and the seminar dinner event. The organising team is composed of members from the Department of Energy, Environment & Climate Action (DEECA), Wimmera Catchment Management Authority (WCMA), Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC), Yarriambiack Shire Council, GWM Water, Parks Victoria, and Trust For Nature (TfN).

How did that happen?!?!? 1 day to go and the 2026 Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar is here! Woohoo!

We’re really looking forward to a day of diving into wetlands with you tomorrow!

Remember to:
- wear suitable footwear and clothing for the field trip. The ground may be wet so waterproof boots are recommended! Hopefully the sun is shining so a hat might be needed too!
- bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!
- take a pen for frantically jotting notes to remember “that thing they said”
- put your phone on silent when you arrive! If you need to take a call, step outside where you won’t be interrupting our magnificent presenters and keen audience.
- and most importantly enjoy the seminar and connecting with others!

Happy National Wattle Day!

Today, 1st September and the official calendar start date for Spring (although Australia’s wonderful native plants do their own thing) is a day for celebrating our national emblem and its relatives 💛

As one of our Wimmera Biodiversity Seminar working group members drove up the Western Highway from Ballarat to Horsham this afternoon her eyes were delighted to see the avenues of gold along the road’s edge.

It also marks 2 more sleeps until WBS2026! We look forward to seeing you very soon!
