Hi my name is Elise, (I am using my Mum’s Facebook) I am 11 years old and this is my first canvas painting. I made the painting by making the blue background first, then leaving it for a whole two days to think about how my painting was going to look. When I had thought about it, I started sketching the kookaburra, and the emojis. Over time I slowly started to paint them and add in more objects and places. I did the people with a template of a silhouette man’s body, then after I just drew on a head and some other features. My community means so much to me, I have no idea what I would do without it. The park, nature, school, the neighbourhood, family, friends, sport, the library and the shops they all make my life the best it can be. (I am really thankful I got to be part of this and thank you for the canvas and the paints!) from Elise. #DiamondCreekMuralFestival

#DiamondCreekMuralFestival 2020.
Taiya loves her outdoor community and being able to play! She says, 'l love all the green bush and riding my scooter along the creek and bike track, so l painted the creek and lots of people playing soccer, footy and having a picnic.'

#DiamondCreekMuralFestival

Lovingly created by Indi, she spent a lot of time thinking about what community meant for her and says "l drew this beacause l love nature and the colour in Diamond Creek. I wanted to do rainbow leaves to represent colour and the koala's because l love them. I did lots of drawing and painting after school to create this.'

What community means to us?
Our mural was created by the students of Strathewen Primary school and it represents the connection we have with our community. The design is of a tree of life with photos that show the community support given to our school. The cogs on the picture represents the connection between our school and community groups and how they engage with each other and work together to encourage and support the growth and development of our students. The Rotary clubs have provided us with the opportunity to have a fairy garden, pizza oven, bike trailer and to be part of the local Kinglake market. We have had the honour to have our students speak at the R.S.L. Anzac Day service in Diamond Creek. We have received funds from the Bendigo bank for a large-scale concert event involving many local schools. There has been community involvement in both centenary events and anniversaries as well as funding for our highly successful Strathewen and Arthurs Creek Bushfire Education Partnership. The support and encouragement of these community groups enables our school to offer our students a wide range of opportunities. “It takes a village to raise a child” (African proverb)

In the late spring of 2020 The Rotary of Diamond Creek with the collaborative support of Veronicas Pantry Diamond Creek, Ray White Diamond Creek and Hurstbridge Diamond Creek Eltham Doreen-Mernda Kinglake Community Branches encouraged the community to showcase their artistic and creative talents in the Diamond Creek Rotary Mural Festival🎨🍃 #DiamondCreekMuralFestival encouraged individuals, families, businesses and community groups to share what community means to them, as we reflected on the challenging time we faced together. 🤝 Much awaited participation bought together the sponsors of The Diamond Creek Mural Festival to formally congratulate Elise, Indi and Milla on their mural art. Thank you for your support and participation. 🍃☀️ #WorkingForTheCommunity #DiamondCreekRotary #RotaryOpensOpportunities
