NT Bluelight

NT Bluelight Providing alcohol and drug free music and entertainment for local schools and communities. NT Bluelight Inc.

was established in the Northern Territory in the early 1980s by Constable Scotty Mitchell of the Northern Territory Police Force. The program has been a major contributor to youth wellbeing, positive activity and mentorship in the Territory for nearly forty years. The NT Bluelight program pioneered exposing the nationally recognised movement to the bush travelling to all corners of the NT, paving

the way for other Bluelight jurisdictions in other states to model their remote strategies on the success of the NT. NT Bluelight has also travelled to remote communities in Timor Leste to promote friendship and goodwill between countries holding two events in regional communities in that country. Since establishment in the NT, the program has continued to make substantial inroads in the area of youth diversion and relationship brokering between the Northern Territory Police, other authorities, NGO’s and young Territorians. The brand recognition, entertainment value, and social cohesiveness abilities of NT Bluelight is highly regarded by generations of Bluelight Youth which have now become Territory families.

As 2017 comes to a close, NT Bluelight would like to acknowledge all the people that have helped to deliver this valuable program across the Northern Territory. The album below is a snap shot of our travels and of the support that we have received over the last 12 months. To our staff and volunteers, sponsors, community stakeholders, the local councils we work with, and the Northern Territory Police, NT Bluelight and our young participants, thank you and wish you well for the year ahead.

As 2017 draws to a close, NT Bluelight would like to acknowledge the support from a number of sponsors and community stakeholders that have joined with us to deliver our valuable program throughout the Northern Territory. With over 35 discos at venues in remote, regional, rural and urban centres, we estimate around 5000 young territorians have participated in the NT Bluelight program this year. On behalf of the NT Bluelight committee, our staff, volunteers and our young participants.... WE THANK YOU!

Last Friday night, the NT Bluelight team held a Halloween disco for youth at the RAAF Base Darwin. It was a fantastic night with everyone dressing up and getting into it. Thank you to our wonderfull volunteers Veronica Mcrostie and Alison for looking after the shop and Hannah Mcrostie for taking some great photos and video. It was great to see a visit from members of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services who helped judge the best dress competition and who also gave out prizes. Happy Halloween to all!

The NT Bluelight team spent the day checking out the amazing sights of Goulburn Island after a fantastic disco last night. We were very lucky to be shown around by Leif Hovland and Colin Fluellen of Warruwi Police. Check out the photos of one of the Territory's hidden treasures!

Friday night saw the community Warruwi come alive with NT Bluelight holding a community disco at the local rec hall. It was a fantastic night with around 250 sausages being cooked by local Police members, Leif Hovland and Colin Fluellen which were donated by the local store. Thanks Dee and Jeffery from the Yagbani Aboriginal Corporation and the community for making us feel so welcome!
