As a child I remember gardens were such a

big thing in our home. Every Sunday my mother and I would catch the steam train to Windsor to visit my grandparents and never came home empty handed, always with cuttings of flowers and seeds that my mum loving nurtured. Scent was also another big thing and I remember the furniture wax my grandmother used and it smelt so strongly of lavender that on a hot summer’s day used to envelope you in the intense fragrance. Her perfume also was Lily of the Valley and even to this day when I smell that essence it takes me back to that special place.

Absolutely loved doing this self portrait, after coming back from the Day of the Dead in Mexico in November 2025, all I can say is what inspiration so here she is. I’m planning now to do another nine paintings and do a complete Mexican exhibition so watch this space there’s a lot unfolding.
