Cygnet Street Piano has news!

On a day involving a cast of thousands, the Cygnet Street Piano has finally been able to move into her home at The Cannery for the next part of her adventure! On Saturday a crew of helpers descended to push, hold & manoeuvre, while she was turned on her end, had her castors put on & extracted from the place where she has been lovingly restored over the past little while. It’s fitting she goes to spend some time in another piece of Cygnet’s history at The Cannery where the next chapter of both their lives is about to be written. Watch this space! Thankyou to everyone who assisted on Saturday & over the past few years since the day she was rescued.

About three years ago I rescued this beautiful old piano from outside the bakery in Mary St (Cygnet). Since then she’s been collected & stored & we subsequently raised enough money through a GoFundMe campaign to have her (almost) fully restored - made playable, her felts, rods & keys fixed, her case polished & her strings tuned. This piano - it seems to me - belongs to the community. I am merely her custodian. It would be great to raise enough funds to have her professionally moved & retuned & for a home - in the community - to be found. We’ve raised enough to have her hair & nails done & floof her dress (the restoration) but now she needs a little help to be moved, & tuned in her new home! But where should she live? Where do you think would be warm & dry, protected from the weather & other threats & able to be enjoyed? There are many of us who know she deserved to be saved, our restorer & piano tuner (who knows pianos) thought so - and I’m biased as I rescued her in the first place! If you have an idea for a community home OR could give a few dollars to help save this community asset the link is -

The Cygnet Street Piano began her campaign for a comeback, in this week three years ago! She’s almost ready … & waiting to find a suitable space in or around the Mary St (Cygnet) area for her forever home. If you’d like to make a donation to get her dancing shoes on & help to pay for her move, the link is below.
