𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮
𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒕 1 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒔

What a wonderful turnout we had on Sunday for our first heat of the year with over 80 actors, writers and audience members enjoying a magnificent array of enjoyable plays.

The skills of our writers just keep getting better and better and our actors always step up and perform the pieces with a mere 2 hours of rehearsal – a tremendous job!

And the winners are …..

Audience picks for Best Play
1st Place: ‘A Small Family Business’, written & directed by Neil Moulang (53 votes)
2nd Place: ‘The Eternal Optimist’, written & directed by
Andrew Brown (32 votes)
3rd Place: ‘Authentic or Not’ written by Maz Goldrick & directed by Tracey Chouvin (29 votes)

Our esteemed judge for the day was Sue Turner and her picks were;
Best Actor: Lisa Hanssens in ‘Authentic or Not’
Runner-up Best Actor: Sally Williams in ‘The Eternal Optimist’
Best Play: ‘A Novel Idea’ written & directed by Di Mifsud.

So ‘A Small Family Business’ and ‘A Novel Idea’ go through to our finals in November.

Massive congratulations to all involved in writing, directing and performing in the plays, there was overwhelming feedback on how entertaining the whole afternoon was.

For those writers hoping to submit a script for Heat 2 in May, I’m afraid I’ve already received the full complement of six plays.
The window for submissions opens the day after the previous heat and by 8:30am all slots had been filled!

Clearly Crash Test Drama has created a pool of enthusiastic and productive playwrights who may need further opportunities.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻!
𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐5

It was another wildly successful day with a packed house and six varied plays penned by our highly accomplished writers and brought to life by eighteen of our finest performers.

The results of our Audience Vote were as follows;
1st place: ‘Curtain Up’ written by Katrina Samaras and directed by Indianna Erickson with 59 votes.
2nd place: ‘Mirror, Mirror’ also written by Katrina Samaras and directed by Indianna Erickson with 56 votes. (What a winning team!)
3rd place: ‘We Three Sisters’ written and directed by Andrew Brown with 50 votes.

Our judge for the day was the fabulous Ali Bendall, the Festival Director of Sydney Short+Sweet short play festival. And her choices were;
Best play/script: ‘Curtain Up’ by Katrina Samaras.
Best Director: Indianna Erickson for ‘Curtain Up'.
Best Actor: Christianne Brawley in ‘We Three Sisters’.
Runner-up Best Actor: (Shared) Sally Williams and Lauren Ayres in ‘Mirror, Mirror’.

Clearly the work of Katrina and Indianna impressed both the judge and the audience but that doesn’t take away from the strength of the rest of the programme, which was intriguing, inventive and hilarious throughout. We’re so proud of our writers.

There was also a bonus performance, that was not part of the competition, of a monologue written by Graham Yates that was so perfectly performed by the inimitable Suzy Wilds that she moved the audience to tears.
Ali Bendall invited her choice for best play, ‘Curtain Up’ and ‘Mirror, Mirror’ as second in the audience vote, to be in next year’s Sydney Short+Sweet Festival. She also extended an invitation to the monologue that Suzy performed – ‘A Very Ruby Christmas’. So the Arts Theatre will be making a solid contribution to the Short+Sweet Festival once again, congratulations all.

A massive thank you must go to all the actors for the way they totally commit to their roles and to all the volunteers who make the day happen. (And to our lovely, appreciative audience for turning up and applauding on cue).
