I went to pick up my sculptures — and to my surprise, the Special Award was there waiting with them! 🏆

At this year’s Mildura Show Art Exhibition, I was honoured to receive both a Special Award and a Merit Award for my sculptures.

A little behind-the-scenes detail — Mulga Bill’s head actually started life as a tow ball, and the horse’s head began as a piece of pipe. It’s amazing where imagination and a welder can take you.

Thank you to the Mildura Show Society for recognising my work, and to everyone who’s supported my journey as Don Pasquale — The Metal Magician.

It’s been a bit of a mix of emotions so far at the show. I’m really proud of my son for winning first place in the drawing section with his portrait of Johnny Cash — such a great achievement and a proud moment to see his talent recognised. 🎨

I was also lucky enough to receive a Merit Award for my sculptures. I’ll be honest, I was a bit disappointed to find them displayed on the floor instead of on plinths or tables, but still thankful they were noticed and appreciated.

The show’s still running for another couple of days, so if you’re heading in, make sure to check out all the amazing local art on display. It really means a lot to be part of it all.

✨ Exciting News from The Metal Magician! ✨
This week, two of my favourite Banjo Paterson–inspired sculptures — The Man from Snowy River and Mulga Bill’s Bicycle — will be on display at the Mildura Show in the Mixed Media Art section.

It’s my first time entering the Mildura Show, and I’m pretty excited (and a bit nervous!) to share these pieces with my local community. Each sculpture has its own story, shaped and welded by hand with a touch of Aussie spirit.

Wish me luck — and let’s see if The Metal Magician can pull off a bit of art show magic this weekend! 🪄✨
